The Hunger Games (Review)

March 25th 2012 17:43
Grade: A- / Rating: 4/5 Stars or 8/10
Director: Gary Ross
with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson
PG-13 / 142 min / Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

"Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match." --imdb.com

As any fan of any book being turned into I movie, I was extremely nervous this wasn't going to be good but it was!

First things first, originally I had very low expectations for this because I was not a fan of Jennifer or Josh's casting, especially Josh. I've always been a fan of Josh Hutcherson he just wasn't Peeta for me, in fact the actor they casted as Cato was my dream Peeta. But, everyone did great, especially Josh. In the books I hated Katniss so it's hard to say I loved Jennifer but I didn't hate her.

It's another 'pretty' movie, meaning it just looks good, the coloring and the setting everything. It was done well. I loved how spot on District 12 was, and even the Capital-- which is where the costumes were amazing. Though I have to say I wasn't a big fan of Katniss's two main outfits, they were a little weak in my mind, but that didn't detract from the movie.

Another good thing, the whole movie was close to the book-- not spot on of course, but there is no way to be. The movie had a cut out some detail, but nothing necessary. I think to two main points that were taken out were Peeta's fake leg and Haymitch drunk at the reaping. Aside from that really close. They also added a few scenes, but I like what they added.

50/50 (Review)

March 4th 2012 13:36
Grade: A / Rating: 4/5 Stars or 9/10
Director: Jonathan Levine
with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anna Kendrick
R / 100 min / Biography, Comedy, Drama

"Inspired by a true story, a comedy centered on a 27-year-old guy who learns of his cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease." --imdb.com

Alright, I did not want to see this movie at all when it came out, a comedy about cancer? That's not funny. But, it was. Cancer is pretty touchy topic for me, and I assume many of you, because my grandma died from it, however, the comedy in the movie isn't making fun of cancer. The movie's funny, but they know when to take it seriously, and they balance it perfectly. It's not offensive, at least I didn't think so, and they kept it classy. It was good because of the realistic optimism the movie had.

I also hate potty humor, I've just never found it humorous and the trailer seemed like their would be drugs in it. Well there was just enough that I was fine with it.

The acting and the relationships were amazing. Joseph and his parents I loved, the mom is a very worried woman and the father has Alzheimer's disease, so there is a bit of conflict there but how the family dealt with it was nice to see. Anna I was actually worried about, but she did really well. And then there is Joseph and Seth's relationship just amazing, that's all I have to say.

Final thought, throughout the movie you don't know whether he'll die or live.

Spoiler: So this story is based off of a true story as I said but I just found out "Adam is based on writer Will Reiser, who was diagnosed with cancer and later recovered. Seth Rogen, who plays Kyle, helped Reiser cope with his disease and convinced him to write a screenplay during their early 20s together."

Oscars

March 3rd 2012 19:39
I almost didn't even bother with the awards this year because I was so disappointed with the nominations, and the winners for that matter, but the actual show was really entertaining.

Not one of the nominations that I was rooting for won, so I'm not even going to bother going into depth there. I will say I didn't really like The Artist, I mean it was OK but I didn't think it deserved all of the awards. I also haven't seen Hugo, I did see War Horse and that was the movie I was really cheering for.

You know now that I'm looking back I wasn't very impressed with the clothes either, that's my favorite part. But, my worst and best dressed none the less.
Worst:

Best:

Now although I wasn't too impressed with most of the attire, and I didn't agree with any of the winners, and I'm bummed that a lot of what I wanted nominated wasn't even nominated, I still liked the show.

Blog Name

January 19th 2012 22:01
This blog is going to be 99% entertainment, personally my favorite form is film.
I was trying to think of some geniously witty blog name that had to do with entertainment, or film. Per usual it didn't come, but my favorite movie did. Tristan and Isolde with Sophia Myles and James Franco. I'll probably talk about it a lot, so be forewarned. Anyways, my favorite quote from Tristan and Isolde is "Know that I love you Tristan. Wherever you go, whatever you see. I will always be with you." So, that's where I got the title from my favorite movie, fitting. Plus, it just tells you all I really love movies, or really anything I'm blogging about.
