Tennessee or Florida Vacation?

March 18th 2008 12:52
My husband and I grew up in Florida. We now live in Alabama but we do enjoy going to Florida to vacation. The beaches are nice and there is a lot of sites to visit. There are the big attractions like Disney World, Sea World and Universal but if you have a chance to visit the sunshine state don't forget to see "Old Town" located in Orlando Florida. Old Town is a very small town that's main focus is 50 years ago. You can even buy a coke for $0.05. It is a lot of fun. Also make sure you visit Saint Augustine. Which is about an hour from Daytona Beach. Some very nice homes, and museums is what you will find in this adorable little down. They have tours set up. Which I loved. We had a blast when we went. So much to see.

If you are looking for more of a peaceful vacation Tennessee is the state for you. My husband and I went to Nashville a few weeks ago and had a blast walking around down town. There is a lot to do in Tennessee as well. There are mansions of famous people to tour, the country music hall of fame, and many other sites to see. Still looking for even more peaceful atmosphere? Check out Gutenberg TN. This is a small town surrounded by amazing mountains. They have some adorable shops in this area. Very peaceful.

Personally I prefer to go to Tennessee. Don't get me wrong I love the beach. But to me Florida has way too much going on. Its a very busy state. I recommend you try both and let me know what you think!

More on Puppy Mills

March 13th 2008 22:56
I recently posted in regards to the problem of puppy mills in the US. I have seen many of them, but it seems as though this is more of a problem then I could even imagine. I open AOL. Which is my who is my Internet is though. The front page comes up with news of a puppy mill/animal hoarder being shut down. We are not talking about 50 or even 100 dogs here. There were 800. YES I SAID 800. Among these were Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Terriers and Chinese Crested. These dogs were being housed in a mobile home. The authorities mention the smell, as being strong referring to the sent of urine and feces.

Authorities say that there are many pregnant, and some were even giving birth as they were being transported to the local shelter in Arizona. The dogs are not the only problem. There were also 82 caged parrots. This is a disgrace. What is wrong with people. These people were out for money. They were selling these puppies for profit. Its sad that people can not get out and get a REAL job. Instead they stay home to raise countless litters of puppies, Kittens or clutches of birds. And we wonder why we have an over population of animals in this world. Countess animals are put down every day. When will we stop the madness. Makes me sick to think about.

It brings me back to a story I heard about 2 months ago. Involving Giant Schnauzers, and Poodles. This Puppy Mill was located about an hour from my home. The dogs were standing in mud, water, poop, and urine. When the authorities showed up they found deer carcases in the pens. Apparently the woman could not afford to feed the dogs so she went to the local deer processor and got the carcass to feed the dogs. These dogs were matted. It was awful. How could you treat an animal that way. How can we unite and stop this mess?

One way is do not buy a puppy from a pet store. They get their puppies from puppy mills. Another research breeders, find one with one breed, go to their home, meet all of their dogs.

We have a major problem in the world with puppy mills. What is a puppy Mill? Well a puppy mill is a breeder with more then 2 breeds of dogs. All of the poor dogs shoved into small cages. Left there to produce litter upon litter of puppies. These poor dogs do not know what love is. Most of them are terrified off people. These poor animals are not taken to the vet for any reason. I cannot tell you the number of pictures of animals I have seen in this condition. There are no laws in the US to stop this. This terrible business is not only about dogs. There are also kitten mills. The horrible thing is that these people have no idea they are doing anything wrong. They think this is ok as long as they are getting a check every time they have puppies to sell.
A few years ago I had a friend (ex-friend now) who had a Miniature Schnauzer puppy for sale. I went to her home, she is a breeder with 50 dogs, this was right after I met her, I was not aware she was a puppy mill until much later. I met this puppy. So sweet. I fell in love with the little girl. While I was playing with the girl she brought in a male Schnauzer. I fell in love with him too. I decided to buy both puppies. I brought them home. She called me 2 days later and said the male had a Doggy STD, he got it from his mother and I had to take him back. I was totally heart broken. We kept Laura (the female). Took her to the vet all was good with her. I was looking at her papers and noticed a man's name on her papers. Not the girl I bought her from. So I called the girl and asked about this. She said she bought a few puppies from another breeder for re-sale. Not from the man on the papers but yet another person. So I called the man on the papers and inquired about purchasing a sister of my puppy from him. I was then told that all of his puppies are sold before they are born to pet stores and the like.
I called my friend back and asked what she knew about this man. She said that she knew he was the worst puppy mill she had ever seen. With 500 dogs all in little cages standing in their own poop.
I was sick. Why in the world would this woman support such an awful operation? Wait a minute,......to make a quick buck. That's what it was all about, making money.
From that moment on I knew there was more about this horrible business out there that I knew nothing about. I have researched. I have been to many of these places. I have called and made reports against these people. But it dose not make any difference. Something has to be done.

We have to stop the greed. The lives of these animals depend on us. Please do some searches. You will find this is a bigger problem then you could ever imagine. There are some ver graphic photos you will come across when you are searching.

"The Notebook" Worth Watching?

March 10th 2008 12:40
The Notebook staring Ryan Gosling, James Garner, Rachel McAdams and Gena Rowlands is a must see. This is a story about an elderly woman who has lost her memory due to dimentia. Her husband and soal mate spends his time reading their story to her in hopes she will remember him and the love they share. Through out the movie, we go back in time to when they first met.We learn that Allie came from a wealthy family, and Noah was working at a lumber yard. Allie's father did not want Noah and Aliie together.

This is a wonderful love story. The best I have ever seen. The love between Allie and Noah is something many people only dream about. I think this movie is well worth watching.
