Sam's 2010 Review, the things that delighted my ears, eyes and senses
December 30th 2010 22:26
Wow, October was my last post. My poor neglected blog ... I promise to write more next year!!
Well here we are again, as John Lennon says ".Another year over, a new one just begun" or about to begin in this case. I have to make something clear here - I don't like New Year. You won't find me woo wooing come 12 on New Year's Eve or doing Auld Lang Syne in the street with the neighbours. Nope not me. I will be sitting in, with a glass of something, probably watching Jool's Holland and eating something.(before I spend a month regretting it and going all nil by mouth) Why? Well, we are all another year older, (albeit in most cases another year wiser) - New Year means a long wait to summer, and warm days, being skint and waiting for pay day and all the sparkling lights and glitter of the month of December are taken down and put away for another year - to me January seems just dull, wet, cold and well downright grey. Also if your year has been great, you don't want it to end, and if it has been, well, not so good (we have all had them) all you really want to do is move on and forget it - putting two fingers up to it and saying off you go.
The only thing I really like about New Year is the programmes on telly that review what's gone on in the last year and so I am going to do my own little review - obviously though from a "Sam Perspective". It will be a more of a what I liked/thought was good in 2010.
TV: This year the telly was pretty drab - but there were a few notible mentions
B]Lost Series Finale : I am not sure how many people actually watched Lost though the whole series, I did, but I can see why into series three people could have got a bit bored and give up on it. As for the actual last series and the finale: People fell into two camps with the end, either they wanted the whole Lost experience explaining from start to finish (which in bits it did but not for the compleitist) and they actually hated the end. Or as me, found it really sad, cried buckets, mainly due to Vincent a golden Labrador stealing the scene and felt satisfied with the end. I bought series one to watch from the begining ... I honestly don't think it was ever meant to be understood
Glee: : Oh my where to begin.. at the start of January, I noticed TV adverts for this show and thought I would give it a whirl. Two episodes were screened one after the other and I fell in love. Finn, Rachel and the crew brought some joy to Monday evenings - I bought the soundtrack, bought the DVD's and thought go ahead judge me. Glee brought me many hours of .. well pure Glee! . As a camped up Lady who loves musicals and a bit of over dramatising how could I not love it - roll on Season Two
Ashes to Ashes: Fore ending of season three of Ashes then refer to Lost! Ha much a similar ending but yet a satisfying ending at that. What I loved about Ashes was the whole 80's vibe going on, loved it and it took me back to my youth.
In honesty Series One was the best series but the soundtrack was SO nostalgic, it did what music is supposed to do and took me back to places and times of my youth, and it had a "feel good factor" with suspense and bit of scary mystery thrown in..like for Lost, everybody wanted big explanations etc. I was happy with what was provided at the end, I sometimes wonder if anybody has an imagination these days and cannot draw their own conclusions from anything
Sherlock: his was a suprise bonus this year. I loved it and loved the reinvention into a modern day Sherlock. I sincerely hope that they do another series, as with Glee, my Sunday evenings were brightened just that big more by this programme (plus I went to Baker Street on my Birthday and felt all in the know"
Dr Who I thought I would really miss David Tennant, and not like Dr Who as much. I still think David was the best ever Dr, but Matt Jackson has been a good Dr Who and I think one that will get even better. What has made this series for me is Amy Pond, I love the fact that he now has a feisty clever assistant with a bit of attitude about her. I look forward to series two.
And so moving on to music, this year for me was THE year of the female artiste. I awaited with bated breath the release of the new Kylie and Christina offerings. I saw SO disapointed with Bionic Christina Aguileria's first CD for nearly four years.
There were a couple of good tracks on there, mainly "You lost me" and "Lift me up" but the rest were just not up to her standard at all. I was left fed up, but low and behold a steady favorite did not let me down "Aphrodite" by Kylie, is a pure pop, dance feast and leaving me with no doubt Kylie is back to her best. I personally don't think she has released the best tracks yet ,Cupid Boy is just begging to pump out in a club - no doubt about it
Finally I am still in love with the Gaga! In February I went to see her live at Echo Arena and she called us all her "little monsters". I loved the concert and thought she was amazing live. The concept of the show was Lady Gaga trying to get the party "The Monsters Ball" with her mates. It was like the" Wizzard of Oz" meets "Texas Chainsaw Macacre" in parts (those that went will understand) but me being me, I loved it. I have a real soft spot for good old Stefani as her first CD saw me through a bad time and it cheered me up. I love anything a bit different and nobody could call her anything but different!
Thanks Petal for brining me many hours of pleasure this year!!
In 2011 I am looking forward to seeing more live music - this year has been a bit of a drought for me - so far, I have Kylie, Katy Perry (Ouch to my ears maybe?) Take That and I hope to possibly get Rhianna tickets fingers crossed, for me her last couple of songs have been amazing.
Finally for this evening, I will mention Cinema. To be honest, I saw quite a few films, Avatar, Tron, Iron Man 2 (which was cool by the way). I even got to see Inception, which made my head hurt a lot (made better by Cillian Murphy). Harry Potter, and the Deathly HallowsThere could only be one winner though and this goes to Toy Story 3. I loved this film from start to finish. You could say that is only to be expected from a Disney freak like myself, but it had everything in it. Comedy, Nostalgia, life lessons to be learnt, and a damn scary bit near the end, which had everybody I know hoping it was'nt what they thought it would be.
The end left me in tears long after the film had finished - a happy ending but also the end of an era in many ways
More to follow tomorrow , nighty night
