I think the February edition of Empire Magazine really summed up this moview in their verdict, To performances in service of action adventure make this the best "dad movie" to be released in years.
I totally agree with this comment. If it was fathers day and I had not planned anything for my father I would take him to this movie, or buy it for him on DVD. Don't get me wrong you will really enjoy this film even if you don't like a 'typical dad movie' and westerns. In the past Westerns have never been a genre of film I could really get into, except for Back to the Future 3!.
Performances are excellent wih a great story to back it up. Worth a watch.!
Lame title.. I know, So I'll stop you there and let you know, I am funnier than this.
I wish to start my first review on a good note. So lets start with Superbad. Now I know this movie is old news now, however I have never had the chance to discuss my thoughts on this movie to a greter audience before. Also with the somewhat recent release of the limited edition DVD it gives me a greater excuse to rave about this classic teen movie.
As a teen growing up in the late 90s and early 00s, I was lucky enough to watch some great teen flicks that touched on the funny and serious sides of growing up and getting laid. However, recent teen movies have been lacking heart and originality. Until now.
SuperBad has got to be in my top 3 movies of 2007, and takes the title of my most laugh out loud moments in a cinema for a long time.
The movie centres around 3 of the most memorable characters of 2007, Evan, Seth and Fogell. The movie follows them as they get a fake ID, buy booze, meet some cool caring cops, get drunk and hook up.
The reason why I loved this movie so much is that it felt like my final year in school. The hunt of finding someone to buy you alcohol. The excitement of going to a party. The possibility that the girl you like will be drunk at this party. And the belief that you may get some action. Not to mention the friendships that a made distance now as a result of going to university.
I felt every part of this movie was geniune and I could really relate to it.
Well is this year going to be awesome? or a let down? I am so excited to see the upcoming big budget films such as Iron Man, Get Smart and Speed Racer. Even more so, I can't wait to experience the huge sequels on offer in 2008. Among these sequels, I am predicting that The Incredible Hulk and Batman: The Dark Knight will be the standouts.
Let me put this out there.... I have not one idea on how to predict the success of Indiana Jones 4 and Bond: Quantum of Solace. I have such high hopes on both these films being as good as their predecessors so I don't wish to comment on them and then be a massive let down.
Further into the future I have my eyes set on Transformers 2 and Tintin.
However looking past these big budget films and sequels I hope 2008 and the coming years can provide a balance that 2007 was successful in delivering. No Country For Old Men, Juno, Superbad, American Gangster, Hot Fuzz, The Darjeeling Limited and Blood Diamond were just some of the great originals that I thoroughly enjoyed in 2007.
So any movies that I have missed? Let me know what you can't wait to see this year and beyond.
