Tea is made from the dried leaves of saluyot are used as a laxative.

Oil extracted from saluyot seeds are used as medicine for skin diseases.

It is not as widely grown as other vegetables like pechay, pepper or sitao, out it is a popular vegetable in the Ilocos provinces and the Visayas, especially Iloilo.
