Sad Scenery

Ive been driving through Nebraska and Iowa, over the same roads Ive travelled so many times and the scenery has changed a lot. Where there were buildings and silos, there are piles of rubble now. It made me sick to look at what the tornadoes have done. It makes me very glad that I dont live in a place where they are common, too. I was talking to the wife as I passed some of the wreckage and she asked me why anyone would live where their house could be blown down.
I didnt have an answer for her. I guess its like living in San Francisco and knowing that a big earthquake could happen at any time. Or living in lowlands, knowing that you could get flooded out. Or living close to an active volcano. I would never move to a place that was in obvious danger of being destroyed. I just dont understand why anyone lives in a dangerous place on purpose, I guess. Dont we all have enough problems without intentionally adding to them by where we live?
