Table Turbulance

April 23rd 2009 08:23
So this weekend is likely to send the Super League table turning, yet again.
So far this season there have been a lot of shocks, and well, a few suprises along the way.

Watch your team on Sky Sports!

Starting with Bradford.

So their not in the best position, ok maybe thats a bit too sarcastic, they are doing bad, very bad. Basically they are at the bottom of the table, as can we really count Celtic Crusaders as they haven't won a match yet! So here Bradford are lying at the bottom, which lets face it isn't like them at all, and their fans ain't gonna be happy! So they atarted to pick up a little last week, but who have they got to face now, thats right the other end of the table. St Helens. The Saints will be wanting to extend their lead at the top of the table so they're not going to sit and relax, and the Bulls are going to want to be moving themselves up a little, a win tonight for Bradford could see them jump up a few places, obviously depending on other teams performances though.

Now Onto Leeds.

They started off well to the season, and then they hit a rocky patch, it seems those Manly Sea Eagles did tire them out or at least shook their confidence. They are facing Harlequins tonight at home so will be looking to close down on Saints at the top, as Leeds won't be happy being in 2nd especially not to the Saints.

Salford will be meeting Hull FC at home on Saturday and both teams are hungry for points. Salford will want to be moving up and getting away from the bottom 3, whilst Hull FC won't be happy until they are at least ahead of Hull KR, has the makings of a good close game.

Its not looking good for Celtic Crusaders, they are at the bottom of the table having won exactly ... no they haven't won any yet! They face the Castleford Tigers on Sunday, which definately won't be easy. Castleford are sitting comfortably in 6th place, but they will be aiming for higher. So Good Luck to Celtics.

As for the rest of the teams, they all seem to be hanging on. Wigan and warrington both looking to improve their game as they aren't doing as well as they would have liked. Catalans are in 8th, which isn't too bad for the French team but lets face it, we know the french hate to lose so I'm sure they will be coming out all guns blazing, to win to improve their table status.

Hull KR should be happy at the minute, they are ahead of their rivals Hull FC and are in a good position on the table (5th). They will be playing the Dragons on sunday, so lets see who takes home the points.

And last but not least Wakefield and Huddersfield. Both team sitting comfortably in the top 5. Wakefield have played well so far this season and they'll be wanting to keep that up, whilst Huddersfield and been letting us know why they really are the Giants. Wakefield will be wanting to add a couple more points against Wigan, as will Huddersfield againts Warrington.

All in all so far this season, the biggest shocks have to be from Wigan and Bradford being so far down the table, their fans will be hoping they start moving up soon.

But thats Rugby League for you, unpredictable!

Is Good Friday now Good Thursday?

April 9th 2009 19:08
What has happened to the traditional Good Friday game between the great North West Rivals Saints and Wigan. A tradition that has been going for a while now suddenly changed.

Everyone knows that Wigan and Saints always play on Good Friday, its has for many years allowed families to go together, as everyone is free, no work, no school, no chores. So why has it now changed to a regular old day. Thursday. What is that? The day day before good friday. Doesn't really have the same ring to it does it.

Well either way it has now been changed to thursday.

As I arrived in St Helens today coming home from work, I was bombarded with Saints fans boarding the Train to Wigan. THere have been warnings on the news today about getting there early to secure your place. With turnstiles opening at 6.30pm a full hour and a half before KO!

So maybe this new schedule agrees with Rugby League!

Maybe it is Good Thursday!

Good luck to both Teams!

The Grand National!

April 4th 2009 15:55
I know this doesn't have anything to do with rugby, but being from Liverpool you can't help but talk about it!

So I am in work at the hotel I work at, we all had a sweep stake at work, plus we sent out our concierge to put some bets on for us.
We were all huddled around the flat screen in reception with half of the wedding party that was going on, personally I didnt fair well at all in the race having none of my 7 horses placed!

However, some of the others were slightly more lucky

Here are the 1st four

1. Mon Mome
2. Comply or Die
3. My Will
4. State of Play

Mon Mone a big outsider at 100-1, making it the joint biggest odds winner in the history of the Grand National!

For a while Black Apalachi was doing fantastic holding up at the front of the pack strongly, then Brechers Brook came, the fence that brings most trouble to horses and jockeys alike each year. Always losing a couple! Black Apalachi landed but head went forward taking it off balance, therefore making it difficult for the jockey to hold on, and off he went. This was when Comply or Die came up with hear the echo.

But it wasn't to be, Mon Mome, paced himself allowing him to come forward towards the end of the race and winning the national by about a furlong.

For those of you who put money on the favourite, like myself, 'Bulter's Cabin' bad luck, he ran well staying in the middle of the pack, but just never looked like winning.

Congratulations to all of you winners out there!
