Rugby League Team of the Century
April 16th 2008 23:18
With the Rugby League team of the Century (not the NRL team of the century) set to be announced at a gala dinner I thought I would post my side and see what you, the punters, thought.
1. Clive Churchill
2. Eric Grothe
3. Reg Gasnier
4. Dally Messenger
5. Ken Irvine
6. The King
7. Andrew Johns
8. Glenn Lazarus
9. Steve Walters
10. Arthur Beetson
11. Ron Coote
12. Bob Mcarthy
13. John Raper
14. Graham Langlands
15. Bob Fulton
16. Norm Provan
17. Peter Sterling
That is my team! First i should let you know that I am only 24 years of age and have never seen many of these legends play but through speaking to people who have this is what i have come up with.
In my opinion (and Craig Bellamy's) Joey is the best that ever has been. One must remember that the team was picked by a panel of 30 people whose average age was over 45 and may take into his off field indiscretions into account. Hopefully they give him his rightful place.

I think the official team they pick tonight will more than likely include a lot of the old timers. Although they were fantastic players in their day, they were playing against amateurs.
18th man: Steve Menzies

Even though Johns will probably end up as the starting number 7, I would prefer that Sterling was. He has shown alot more dignity and grace.

Joey, in this professional era, stood out like a beacon. He was the best by a country mile.
What about one the fact that Arthur Beetson has publically stated that he is not going to attend the ball.
Beetson may be the only Indigenous representative in the Team of the Century, is a pity he refuses to attend.
