Routleys Bakery & the case of the shrivelled schnitzel

Routleys $7.50 Schnitzel & the Best Mayonnaise.
I was so looking forward to my lunch today. My better-half was picking up chicken schnitzel rolls from the bakery and although I was starving, I was holding out for that plump juicy schnitzel with all the trimmings.
Unwrapping my lunch with hungry anticipation, I bit into it and found myself with a mouthful of bread and soggy wilted lettuce – oh and just a smidgen of something hard and chewy! On further inspection I discovered this hard chewy morsel to be the end of my schnitzel. Well, to be accurate, the end of my dried up crusty schnitzel strip!
Now if you frequent Melbourne’s west, you may be familiar with the over-priced, over-self estimated Routley’s Bakery, especially popular in the Williamstown/Newport area where they have four bakeries always busy, and usually out-of stock after 12 noon.
Now don’t get me wrong, on some occasions they can deliver a sandwich that really rocks – but it’s always very hit and miss!
Rather than tell you they don’t have a schnitzel left, they are quite content to slap an old dried-up chicken strip on your roll while you’re not looking, then charge you full price!
This roll cost $7.50 from the Douglas Parade Routleys in Williamstown.
So why do I keep going back? You may ask. Well, I ask myself this question too, almost every second-time I go there.
And the answer is, I love the mayonnaise! “Weak reason” you may say. But have you tried their mayonnaise?
If you have, no doubt you understand my predicament.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure the mayonnaise they use is Best Foods Real Mayonnaise and you can buy it at the supermarket. So if I’m right, I will no longer have to play Routley’s Schnitzel Roulette – I am going to make myself the best schnitzel Rolls in the West!
