It has the distinction of being the most shocking film in the history of the Cannes film festival. Antichrist, the latest demonstration in provocation from the notoriously off balance Lars Von Trier more than lives up to its reputation. It is shocking, barbaric, and disturbing beyond belief...yet it is also one of the most captivating films I have seen this year.

Antichrist starts in dark territory and keeps slowly delving into the black abyss of our own nightmares and dares the audience to follow. In the haunting prologue, a couple (Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg) screw like rabbits in the shower while their infant son falls out of their third story window to his death, all to the tune of a soft operetta.

Instead of accepting their grief as a part of life...the husband, who is a therapist, decides to treat the situation himself instead of leaving it in the hands of those with no emotional investment. I will tell you that you will not find two more emotionally distant people in a film this year that the creations of Dafoe and Gainsbourg. Despite their cold interactions, both actors deliver truly captivating performances which hold the bounds of reality even as everything spins out of control.

There is however one frequent situation that the couple seem to connect...featured below:

Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Defoe as "He

Whenever "He" and "She" screw their heads off...it is the closest that they have to any demonstration of love.

Other than those instances, this is a couple at their breaking point. As a last ditch effort to help his wife, the therapist decides to take a trip to the woods named "Eden," (nice touch) seeing as the woods are the place where the wife feels the most exposed. What comes during their trip is some of the most simultaneously shocking and gripping scenes in recent film memory.

Much has been made about these scenes...some call it torture porn, others call it immoral and wrong, some call it misogynistic and some call it art. I don't want to give the details of these scenes...but they depict genital mutilation in a way that combines extreme close ups, stomach churning violence, and graphic sexuality One thing is for sure...for those who witness it...these scenes will have a permanent place in the dark corners of your mind.

Ironically enough, it is the reputation of these scenes that give Antichrist its wings. Once the couple ventures out to "Eden," there is a sense of impending doom that hovers over the film like a dark cloud. It is that fear of the inevitable that is experienced by both the actors on screen and the participants in the audience. It is also that feeling that pins you to your seat and chills you to the bone...something that I have not experienced in a film in quite some time.

When the film reaches its horrific and grisly conclusion and potent epilogue, you feel as though you have experienced something that you know you shouldn't have...but are all the better for it.

Don't get me wrong Antichrist is not for everyone (hell it isn't for 99% of the population) but for those of you who aren't too squeamish I recommend that you take on the challenge of Antichrist to test not only your tolerance for disturbing content...but the ability of your mind to experience something truly terrifying.

College Football Picks: Week 11

November 14th 2009 15:35
It is November...conferences are winding down, and bowl positions are being determined. Last week, my beloved Iowa Hawkeyes went down, opening the door for the TCU Horned Frogs to break through. It is frustrating...but still fun.

Anyway, on to the picks:

Indiana at #19 Penn State:

After their loss to Ohio State last week, the Lions are on the outside looking in when it comes to a Rose Bowl birth. However, they can still go someplace warm on New Years Day if they win out. They start here.

Indiana 10 Penn State 31

Michigan at #21 Wisconsin:

Rich Rod is in trouble in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines have been in position to become bowl eligible for weeks...but they just keep losing. Now its either win today...or against rival Ohio State. Neither happens.

Michigan 17 Wisconsin 28

#13 Houston at UCF:

Can you guess who the nation's leading passer is. Tim Tebow? Colt McCoy? nope...Its Houston's Case Keenum. He continues his tear against UCF.

Houston 44 UCF 13

#1 Florida at South Carolina:

Oh the intrigue of Spurrier facing his old team...except that Florida is much better.

Florida 31 SCU 21

#18 Arizona at California:

Arizona has been the surprise of the Pac-10. Cal has been the crushing disappointment. Now, without Jahvid Best for the Bears...I expect Arizona to run wild.

Arizona 31 Cal 24

#23 Stanford at #11 USC:

USC will not be BCS bound this year for a change. They are still crawling their way to try and get a New Years Day bowl. Stanford has been a shock...they are now bowl eligible. Their luck will run out against the Trojans.

Stanford 13 USC 27

Notre Dame at #8 Pittsburgh:

Charlie Weis, prepare your resume

Notre Dame 24 Pitt 37

Arizona State at #14 Oregon:

Lagarret Blount returns for Oregon after his week 1 punch at Boise State. The Ducks can still smell roses and a showdown against Arizona next week. They make mince meat out of the Devils:

ASU 10 Oregon 31

#15 Iowa at #10 Ohio State:

The winner of this game will go to the Rose Bowl. Iowa had their magical season crushed last week when not only they lost to Northwestern...they lost QB Ricky Stanzi for the year. Ohio State is finding their stride...which is bad news for the Hawks.

Iowa 10 Ohio State 24

#16 Utah at #4 TCU:

Who doesn't love the Horned Frogs of TCU. This is their last hurdle to an undefeated season. Last year, they fell 13-10 at Utah. They get their revenge this time.

Utah 14 TCU 32

Upset Special:

#12 Miami at North Carolina:

The ACC is as schizo as any conference in the country, with Miami leading the way. I say that this week, they fall at UNC.

Miami 21 North Carolina 27

College Football Picks: Week 10

November 6th 2009 06:00
After nine weeks of college football, I have drawn a few conclusions:

1. There is no dominant team in the college football world.
2. no one respects the Big Ten Conference
3. Lou Holtz does not lend himself well to hi definition television
4. I didn't know this...but Duke has a football program!!!
5. BCS controversy is inevitable.

Anyway, on to this weeks picks:

Northwestern at #8 Iowa:

If there is one team that has had the number of the Hawkeyes in recent years...it is the Northwestern Wildcats. It seems that they always find a way to win in Iowa City. However, I believe this Hawkeye team is a team of destiny and they find a way to get it done against the Wildcats.

NU 17 Iowa 30

South Carolina at Arkansas:

A black and blue SEC battle. Is there any better way to spend a saturday. Steve Spurrier vs Bobby Petrino. I give Petrino the edge...just barely

SCU 21 Arkansas 24

Duke at North Carolina:

Duke has a football program that has wandered the desert of ineptitude for decades...but don't look now, but the Blue Devils are one win away from bowl eligibility. UNC is a tough team and it will be a tall order...I say the Devils don't have enough on this day

Duke 17 UNC 28

#7 Oregon at Stanford:

The Quack Attack is back. Oregon trounced USC and are skyrocketing up the standings. This could be a trap game, but I think Oregon is focused and continues their winning ways.

Oregon 28 Stanford 13

#12 USC at Arizona State:

USC is reeling after that dismantling in Eugene Oregon. ASU would be a nice bounceback game...if they didn't always give the Trojans trouble. I say USC gets it done.

USC 21 ASU 10

#15 Ohio State at #11 Penn State:

I predict a whiteout... Buckeye QB Terelle Pryor enters another hostile environment where crowd noise will be a factor. I predict we see the Pryor of old...and by that I mean interceptions and mistakes.

Ohio State 17 Penn State 31

#9 LSU at #3 Alabama:

The game of the weekend, Alabama on a bye week fell to number 3 in the BCS. A big win over the Tigers would conceivably put them back in the number 2 slot. I think that it will be a hard pounding game...and the tide gets it done...but don't bet the farm on it.

LSU 13 Alabama 16

Upset Picks:

#24 Wisconsin at Indiana:

After last week's game in Iowa City, you have to feel for the Hoosiers. They came up short again...one of these times they have to hold on...I say they do it this week.

Wisconsin 21 Indiana 24

#18 Oklahoma State at Iowa State:

This is an Oklahoma State team whose season has kept going from bad to worse. First Dez Bryant gets suspended...then they get spanked at home to the Texas Longhorns. The trend continues on Saturday in Ames.

Ok St. 14 ISU 20

#20 Oklahoma at Nebraska:

One can't help but remember years ago when this matchup always had the potential of being a one vs two game. We are far from then...but this is still an intriguing matchup. I say the Bo Pellini led Huskers beat backup QB Landry Jones and the Sooners.

Oklahoma 28 Nebraska 32

College Football Picks: Week 9

Now things are getting interesting. The BCS is even crazier and more frustrating to piece together than ever before. This weeks games could completely shake things up and create more frustration...or excitement.

Now on to the picks

WWE continues its trend of giving each pay-per-view event its own identity with "Bragging Rights" which features a card containing a Raw vs Smackdown card (sorry ECW). It also features two world title matches and a 7 on 7 tag match. This is the one event that has the highest potential to be a lasting tradition.

So anyhow here are my predictions

College Football Picks: Week 7

October 24th 2009 15:21
This is the first week where we have BCS standings to reflect on. Florida and Alabama are 1 and 2, not suprisingly, however they must play one another down the road. Other than that...it is a crap shoot.

Now, on to the picks

College Football Picks: Week 7

October 17th 2009 14:32
Two huge rivalry games cap off this pivotal weekend in the college football season...along with the SEC powers trying to keep pace with the best teams in the country...AKA the rest of the teams in the conference.

It should be a wild weekend...it should be fun

College Football Picks: Week 6

October 10th 2009 06:04
After my miscalculation of the Missouri-Nebraska game, yours truly has quite a bit of egg on my face. However, I will not incorrect predictions stop me from posting (obviously...I'm not that good at this). However, this site is about having fun with football and making the college football season more enticing. This week is an absolute barnburner with two top 5 teams squaring off.

Seeing as how this week's Thursday Night Game is between two ranked Big XII opponents...I felt as though I should weigh in.

The WWE continues in October with a new concept...have three main event matches take place within "Satan's Structure"...otherwise known as the Hell in a Cell match. It may prove to be an exhausting endeavor...but certainly one that will be memorable.

So...on to the predictions
