Juan Carlos now has a monthly newsletter titled EN SU GRIP. It is published in their living room, and now has a circulation of 200. Some pretty famous people have read it. In the Roberto DeVicenzo Classic where Juan Carlos was invited and met Roberto, quite a few significant Argentine golfers received the Bulletin. Juan Carlos played with Luis Rojas, the touring pro who received the Lord along with his reluctant wife Erica, was Juan Carlos' partner and they finished 5th in the event. Luis Rojas reprts that his marriage is much better and that their daughter, Bianca, has recovered from her very serious illness.
The Argentine Masters was played in Dec. and Juan Carlos was present. He met Past President of the Republic, Carlos Menen and arranged for a golf date with him. This is the answer to a prayer Jim Hiskey initiated with Juan Caelos; a prayer of over a year ago for Juan Carlos to meet some signifacant Argentine politicans. Menen was very significant, but has lost much of his appeal and self confidence. Menen was gifted a copy of The Mulligan and may well find peace of mind because of the prayers offered in his benefit. He showed a great deal of interest in reading The Mulligan and playing with Juan Carlos in the near future.
Although some of the regulars on the Argentine Tour seem to avoid Juan Carlos, as you might expect, he is recognized by many of them and they seek him out when he is at a tour site. He has been invited to play in the Pro Am at the Tucuman Open. Angel Cabrera will be there as well as Andres and Eduardo Romero, another two international players.
Our Argentine brother has made wonderful inroads into the professional golf industry, not only with the players but also with their agents and other tour officials. It has only been a year and Juan Carlos is reminded of a song they sing at his church. The song is about how the Lord makes roads where there doesn't even seem to be a path. Both Heather and Juan Carlos are humbled by the work the Lord is doing in their lives. Juan Carlos met Fabian Montovia, a fine player in the 90s who started his career with Angel Cabrera, the 2007 US Open Champion. Fabian won a number of Argentine events and played the US Tour as well as the European Tour. Unfortunately Fabian led the 'high life' and did a poor job of managing his finances to the point that he declared bankruptcy. So while Angel was getting bettter every year, Fabian was suffering from depression. Fabian has recently accepted the Lord as his personal Savior, and is getting his game and life back together. Juan Carlos has spent a lot of one on one time with Fabian and feels he is recovering. Juan Carlos was in Salta, Argentina for the Northern Argentine Open and Fabian played well enough to finish in the money in his first event for some time.
Juan Carlos also met many new pros and his attendance at these events has resulted in the building of his flock. The pros recognize Juan Carlos and ackowledge him as a soldier for the Lord. Andres Romero, a fine Argentine player in the US, has become a friend of Juan Carlos, but Andres missed this event because of illness.
There is a 7 month old girl who is suffering from pneumonia and her parents, Luis and Erika Rojas, have asked Juan Carlos to keep little Bianca in his prayers, and he has asked us to pray as well.

[This is winter in Argentina so not much golf is played. On July 9, their independence day, Carlos and Heather invited two Tour Players and their families to their home for a celebration. Both pros have been sharing on tour and they gave Carlos the names of 20 other tour players who have accepted the Lord. Carlos now has a great nucleus for his ministry when the Tour starts again in Oct./Nov. Carlos has a 6 class group study built around a booklet titled Explaining Christianity; he will use it to strengthen the pros knowledge of who Christ is and how to relate to Him.
Then Carlos traveled to China at the request of Jim Hiskey. He formed part of a group including Open Champion Bill Rodgers, Wally Armstrong, a young American PGA member who has been teaching in China for 3 years and 15 other men who were there to give witness to Chinese teaching pros and businessmen. They held a 3 day workshop for Chineses golf instructors on How to Teach Golf. Then they played an event with Chinese Businessmen; it was the Payne Stewart Cup. Juan Carlos played with a faithfull servant, Shawn Munn, who plays with one arm on one leg; and plays well in addition to his marvelous witness. Finally there was a symposium on how to grow Christianity in China

Juan Carlos met Antonio Ortiz, a 55 year old golf professional who has been a warrior for the Lord for 30 years with other golf professionals. Many have shied away from church and a demonstrative faith because they felt used rather than supported. Antonio continues to witness by sharing Jesus with them, but he has needed something more tangible to offer them. Enter Juan Carlos who has formed a strong bond with Antonio and proposed that they offer a 6 class program in two Buenos Aires locations. The program is titled 'Explaining Christianity' and was developed by SEAN in Chile. This easy, simple program teaches the basics of what it means to be a follower of Jesus

There is no such thing as a 'coincedence'. Pastor Juan Carlos asked for a tee time on the 'spur of the moment'' and was paired with a threesome that included a 16 year old girl. She asked if she could play from the men's tees, whch is a bold thing for a young lady to do in a 'macho' enviornment. As it turned out, she stripped her first drive past all three men and proceeded to shoot a lower score than all of them. Juan Carlos engaged her in conversation and it led to a discussion of a relationship with Jesus, a topic in which she was very interested. She is Jazmin Reina and the 4th ranked Junior Girl golfer in Argentina, and is looking for every advantage to improve. She agreed to have Juan Carlos keep in touch with her, and of course, Juan Carlos is thrilled with the mentoring opportunity. We have asked Cris Steven, who leads the LPGA Fellowship, to have Lorena Ochoa send a note of encouragement to Jazmin.
Juan Carlos is encouraged every day as his ministry gains attention and golfers show interest in learning more about Jesus and a willingness to provide some financial support. If you care to support, send a check to The International Foundation Account 150JC, Box 23813, Washington DC 23813
Juan Carlos has started a 'core group' of six 'brothers' to help direct his ministry. At their first meeting, Juan Calos shared his vision and asked them to pray about it and return with suggestion for changing/strengthening it.
He also attended the 85th birthday celebration of Roberto De Vicenso, and gave him a copy of The Mulligan in Spanish as a gift from Jim Hiskey, a former tour player with Roberto. He has also given the book to Angel Cabrera, Rafael Gomez, Eduardo Romero and Andres Romero, all tour players

Juan Carlos Sousa is an ordained Argentine pastor. You no doubt leared of him from a special Lesson Tee mailing sent to you by Old Pro Resources. Our mission is to get the message of the book, The Mulligan, to as many golfers as possible, especialy those who do not have a relationship with the Lord - yet. We are providing the book The Mulligan in Spanish to Juan Carlos free of charge, and we are paying the freight to Buenos Aires. He will give the book to many golfers and we will continue to build the Kingdom in a country where going to church and having a relationship with Jesus is not the 'macho' thing to do.
