Orble - Ripe Or Rotten?

Well, what can i really say that hasn't already been covered in numerous reviews of this film. Stupid, Corny, Unbelievable and Highly Predictable.
But really, what is a good movie without those things?
Sometimes i just really feel like watching, well a shit movie. All you 'indie' people out there don't like to admit it, but i know your out there, at some point anxiously putting on the Lizzie Mcguire Movie.

Now this movie, i will admit is both incredibly predictable and too far-fetched for words. But isn't that a good movie?
The movie that stars John Cusack, )one of my most hated actors, the other half would be Joan Cusack, seriously is there a movie that she isn't in?) and Amanda Peet that seems like she hasn't aged a day? and it basically centers around the myth that what the mayans believe will be the end of the world on December 21st 2012. Awesome.
I have to admit that i am a sucker for disaster movies, and i don't know why, i just guess i like watching the world go up in flames, but once you get passed the horrible beginning (major snooze-fest) and it starts to warm up and shit starts to go down, it gets pretty watchable.
The special effects are nothing short of spectacular, and is one of those movies that isn't afraid to let some people die. A whole lot of people go six feet under in this, and it does it well. I love movies when they kill the annoying people in the most painful ways-i love love love it.

And dads, don't worry too much about the plot. After the first half hour, it's bang bang bang. It even left my dad breathless and so involved in the movie that he was left asking "is this a true story?"

But long story short. It is corny. it is stupid. and it is predictable, but isn't that all what we want?
I swear people don't know what they want? If there's a happy ending, people say call it predictable, but if there's a bad ending then people leave the cinema depressed and end up wanting that happy ending, so i say, just shut the fuck up and enjoy the movie.
I am man enough to admit that i want a god damn happy ending!

2010 is out on DVD in Australia this week.

It's Not Complicated, It's Brilliant

Finally, a movie i can say i enjoyed.
You are all probably thinking (And when i say all i mean the whole 2 people that probably read this blog-one of them is me) that i only seem to hate movies, well this seems to be the case at the moment when there is a serious fucking drout of good movies.
But no thankfully, Meryl Streep has saved the day once again, I love you Meryl.

Her well, relatively new movie It's Complicated is a definate crowd pleaser. I really couldn't have expected more from the movie and thats saying something.
I Went across to see this film one night in Miami when it was hurricane katrina outside, and we had previously seen Did You Hear About The Morgans-so we were all abit depressed, and somewhat horrifyed from the fact that SJP's chin has grown to the size of the Empire State Building.
So we needed a little R&R, so we decided upon the old people's choice and boy are we happy we chose it.

This film, directed by Nancy Meyers (of Something's Gotta Give fame) is one of the best rom-coms i have seen in many, many years.
Now, if you read my reviews you should know by now that i really hate talking about the film's plot. If you want to go to IMDB or it's official website.
But what i will say, is the characters, and that means each and every one of them delivers such great performances and deliver them with such warmth and comic relief, i didn't know was possible from old people.Having said that Meryl's kids really pissed me off, for the entire duration of the movie i wanted to shoot them all in the head-i don't know how people can be so annoying with out trying to be, but they sure succeeded in pissing me off. Everytime they came on screen i walked outside to get another refill of my popcorn bucket.

Other then them stinkers, i think everyone will enjoy this movie, young or old. And yes, even though it is cringe-worthy to see Meryl and a noticeable fatter Alec Baldwin get it on, it's worth it (not only just to laugh at the fact that Alec Baldwin has a gut the size of Peter Griffin.) I promise you, you will not be dissapointed with It's Complicated.

I think it may not even be at the Australian Cinemas anymore? But, when it comes out of DVD, watch it!
Or watch it now on the internet, i'm sure there are plenty of sites that have it illegally downloaded or recorded. Arn't i such an advocate for Film??

Oh Brother

I had the somewhat 'pleasure' to see Brothers whilst i was holidaying in New York City, and to be honest i had heard nothing about it, apart from seeing the poster displaying the characters in what seemed to be like a beginning of a threesome.
But nethertheless, my friend told me she had seen the trailer and was desperado to see it.

So we hopped along to see it, and without me even knowing, three of my favourite actors/actresses were in in. Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Toby Mcguire. Jackpot.
Buuuuuut, not even those pretty faces could save this terribly lagging film. A moment of Natalie simply taking a bath seemed to take up half the movie and a scene were Jake's character is smoking outside took up the rest.
I feel they tried too hard to be somewhat of a 'indie' movie with too many silences and atmospheric music playing in the background- my friend who was desperate to see it-fell alseep.

But no, as a true trooper would, i stayed awake, it might have been the fact that i had a stupid amount of caffeine that day, or the fact that i had a running commentary sitting behind me. Two rows of 'gangstas' decided they would publicly announce their distaste for the film and decide to rip, almost every frame of the movie to shreds.
Although most of the cinema hated it, i enjoyed it. I was sitting laughing histerically with my popcorn kernals flying everywhere and sprite coming out of my nose, infact i don't remember the last time i laughed that hard!

Anywhoo, back to the storyline.
Brothers revolves around Toby Mcguire and Jake Gyllenhaal. One is a war-hero who ever pleases his dad, and the other well, is a fuck up.
And after Toby's character is kidnapped and held hostage in Iraq, he is announced dead.
Leaving Natalie with no sugar daddy. Suddenly Jake's bad boy image gets more appealing. Get my drift.

Yes, a silly and somewhat predictable plot, but don't get me wrong this film does have some pretty powerful moments, but them alone are worth the price of admission.
Just when i thought things were getting juicy, it ends. Literally, the cliff hanger that the trailer bases itself upon lasts a whole damn minute.

But by this time i was hardly watching the screen as a fight was about the break out in the cinema between a dark man with a clock around his neck and a fat dad who was trying to make out with his wife all movie.

Brothers is now playing in Australia. Words of advice-take your ipod.

Shutter Island

One movie that has been on our lips for quite some time now is Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island.
The flicks promotional plugging has been nothing short of saturation, which usually annoys the hell out of me, but if the film can manage to come up with the goods, all is forgiven.
