Remembering Michael Jackson

With the anniversery of Michael Jackson's death, we thought that it might be a fitting tribute to have a look at our fondest memories of the undisputed King of Pop!!

We would love to hear some of your memories of Michael Jackson, so make sure that you leave your comments below!!

Songs chosen by Paul Fellows

Human Nature

One of my earliest memories of Michael is of his Thriller album, which is still to this day the highest selling album of all time!! My parents had the album on cassette and my brother and I used to listen to it and dance around the living room all the time!!

Human Nature always stood out to me and I truly believe that it is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.

Released as a single in 1983, unfortunately there is no music video for the song, but I have included a fan made video for the song that I think is actually quite good.

The Way You Make Me Feel

The third single from the Bad album, it was also Michael's third consecutive single to peak at number one on the US Billboards Hot 100 music chart, and it charted mainly within the top ten and twenty internationally.

Interestingly, Michael had written over 60 songs for the Bad album, with plans for it to be a 3-disc album!! I truly hope that we get to hear some of those songs in the future!!

Of course the music video is now seen as a classic MJ video and I remember seeing it for the first time when I was younger and giggling nervously at the dance routine with Michael and the dancers humping the road, knowing it meant something naughty!! Michael's sister LaToya also features in the video.

In the Closet

The third single from the Dangerous, caused a little controversy due to the dueting vocals being credited to Mystery Girl!!

Who was this Mystery Girl??

Originally conceived as a duet between Michael and Madonna, most people just assumed that it was her!! According to a 1992 interview with British journalist Jonathan Ross, Madonna said she worked on some lyrical ideas for the song but when she presented them to Michael, he decided they were too provocative and she decided not to continue with the project.

It was later revealed that the Mystery Girl was Princess Stéphanie of Monaco.

Supermodel Noami Campbell starred in the music video with Michael and her vocals were used on the video.

Man in the Mirror

What is now THE Michael Jackson anthem, Man in the Mirror originally topped the US charts in 1988, making it his fourth consecutive number 1 single in the US!!

Written by Siedah Garrett (who also provided backing vocals) and Glen Ballard, the song has to be one of the most life affirming songs ever written, saying that one person can make a difference!!

And just for a little fun, I came across the below video on YouTube and I think that it really is an amazing tribute!! To give credit were credit is certianly due, the medley is arranged by Kurt Schneider and performed by Sam Tsui. That's right, all vocals are done by the one guy!! Well done guys, the medley is awesome!!

Check it out below.

I totally agree about the Tsui performance.
You really hope that someone at a record company gets to see him and he gets picked up - what an amazing voice!!

Also can't believe that it has been a year!!

I heard an interview with will.i.am (from the Balck Eyed Peas) who was working on an album with Michael prior to his death and he said that he will probably never release the material!! What a shame!! It was probably awesome!!
