REFLECTIONS

I was doing some deep thinking today (I don't think my brain quite realised what was happening) and I started thinking about things that left such an impression on me as a child that the memories never went away. Maybe the strongest memories we all have are the things that shape us! I have never thought about why I love music so much, it was just always there. But then I recalled as far back as I can my mother playing piano, she still does. She loves her piano and we grew up with the sound of her playing in the background.
I used to love to dance, going out with my friends while they were on the lookout for good looking boys, I just wanted to dance. So when disco came upon us all no one was more pleased than me! Sequinned tops, platform shoes and disco balls were what I looked forward to at the end of every week.
I still love my old disco music only now I dance around the kitchen.
I have vivid memories of my father painting snow white and the seven dwarfs dancing in a circle on me and my sister's bedroom wall. I remember he was always drawing and now I think about how much I loved that snow white painting he did. So of course that obviously was why I loved to draw so much and loved anything creative. I love beautiful pictures and I guess I have him to thank for that.
One of the strongest memories of my nanna is her playing her scottish music when I stayed with her during my holidays. So once again music comes into my life. I loved those old scottish songs and can still remember the words to some of them.
I also have such a love of anything whimsical. I remember two favourite books I would read over and over again when I was little. A great big book of poetry and Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales. Why don't they write books like these for kids anymore? They were wonderful. I loved the little mermaid the best. So that's probably where the love of books and make believe came from, I'm still a child at heart and would like to think these things really exist!
There's so many things that shape a person and these are probably just a few, but they are wonderful memories and It's only now I realise how strong these influences were.
What about the rest of you out there? What do you think shaped you?
