Reefer Madness: Songs that Celebrate Cannabis
July 18th 2007 13:21
Today I was reading an article about "Grassmusic". "Grassmusic" is a musical salute to weed by cannabis aficionados . This “grass roots" movement has enjoyed steady popularity for the past 40 years. I guess I underestimated the level of member dedication. This group has even created a manifesto (no mean feat there believe me)
So sit back and fire up a bowl and chill... High Times magazine asked their readers for a list of some of their favorite songs about weed.
Light up - Styx
Don't Step on the Grass, Sam - Steppenwolf
Champaign and Reefer - Muddy Waters
Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35 - Bob Dylan
Third Eye - Tool
Smoke Two Joints - Sublime
My Mind Is Playin' Tricks On Me - Kottonmouth Kings
Can I Get A Hit - Cypress Hill
Get Ready - Sublime
My Name Is Bud - NOFX
Rub A Dub - 311
Dubby Joint - Fat Boy Slim

“We are genuine pioneers of our time, we have continued to keep the cannabis seed alive during a time when speaking out against the propaganda of this natural plant meant risking a life behind bars. The time has come for us to have a community of music that will not only help fuel our continuing battle for freedom but once and for all expose the 65 year old Cannabis Conspiracy.”

The only one I can think of is that really silly song "...because I got high" or something like that!
...and 'Puff The Magic Dragon' is not exactly what it seems...
"...drag....on..."
Hugs and a high five Mis!

I THINK I must be the only person who bought that album. Anyway, it has a song called Put a Good Buzz On. (Or is it Pass Around the Pipe) BUT my favorite druggie song has to be The Needle and the Damage Done by Neil Young. Only the hard stuff for Neil! Why waste your time smoking reefer when you can shoot up?????? OR the argument from way back was alway "You mean Norwegian Wood is about marijuana????" And is it a comment on society that MARIJUANA is on SpellCheck??? And, is it a comment that few people misspell it? BTW gimme those cookies!!!! I love Oreos!
No sticks, no stems, only what you need...

I can't believe you left out Tom Jones' 'Green, Green Grass of Home.
The one Iike most from your list is Dylan's Rainy Day Woman. I haven't heard it for a couple of decades but it stuck in my mind due to how he captured the dop(e)y atmosphere with the music.

sorry if I am repeating any...
Technohead: I want to be a hippie

There are some UB40 and Peter Tosh songs too that I can`t think of the names of.
There is something rather groovy about these songs....
