The Ugly: Temper, Temper. Showing the ugly side of drivers
October 9th 2006 02:08
Tut tut… Yesterday I was returning to the big city with my brother and his family after a short weekend stay at my parents. The day wasn’t too good as it was hot and hazy, yet we do our best to keep our cool and just enjoy the company on the way home.
Then came the two cars about 30 feet from us, a Mercedes and a BMW. I am not good with cars and I can’t really recognise the model of the cars, but I was more concern on the drivers, when one BMW didn’t realised that there was a Mercedes at the back, flashing when the BMW was on the fast lane, driving 110km / hour.
My brother and I watched and I noticed it was almost a minute or so until the BMW realised it (or perhaps purposely) and slowly switched lanes to the left side. Before this happened the Mercedes was really close to it, almost bumper-to-bumper at that speed (or a little less) and my brother was gave a light comment, “uh… this isn’t nice for the Mercedes to go so close”
Thinking of after the BMW switched lanes the Mercedes would just speed as he pleases on the fast lane and be gone. But that wasn’t it. The Mercedes suddenly swing speed a little more and swing to the left and forced the BMW to sway towards the emergency line at the left lane. If the BMW weren’t alert enough the Mercedes would have knocked him.
We could see the anger from the BMW as it swayed into the emergency lane, and the crazy Mercedes stayed back in the same speed as the BMW. The BMW then angrily chased the Mercedes and cut it front and of course, the Mercedes didn’t give way.
Swaying from left lane to right lane they “battled” and my brother slowed down and maintained in the speed of 90 – 100 km/ hour, fearing that they might ended up an accident and we will ramp into it if we can’t break on time. We saw the break lights of the two cars as they swayed in and out, shocking the lorry and a few cars, including an express bus up front. My brother wanted me to help him to record this incident but they were just too fast to catch up.
What has this world become? We were speculating that the BMW driver might somehow gave “the finger sign” to the Mercedes drive or vice versa, that fumed up the drivers and had that “little crusade” on the road, forgetting the safety of their own lives and others on the road. Usually car owners of luxury cars would have do their best to avoid possible accidents because their parts are expensive, but what we experienced on the road yesterday told us otherwise. The pride and bad temper is telling us that we, the world, because of so much frustration, that we no longer have a vision of peace, but rotten souls in “beautiful shells”.
Lesson to learn:
- Next time if you intent to go into the fast lane make sure there isn’t any cars behind.
- Use your mirrors; they are useful to avoid crazy drivers at the back flashing you… especially if you aren’t a skilful driver.
- Let bygones be bygones. You don’t have to be crazy and follow the lure of crazy drivers.
