Ole' Fashion Whooping: Lakers Swarming Defense Stifles C's 89-67

To say the Celtcis got the Old Yeller treatment in last nights game 6 at the Staples Center would be a vast understatement. If I had to use one word to describe this pivital elimination game for the Lakers was ENERGY. Lakers had it. Celtics didn't. It's really that simple. The Lakers out hustled, out worked and most importantly out defended the Celtics in a true team effort. Led by Kobe Bryant's 26 points and 11 Rebounds L.A. came out the gates like a bat out of hell, sparked by the impressively intense Staples faithfull.
Three of the Lakers starters reached double figures including a welcomed return home for Ron Artest who posted 16 points and 6 rebounds, by far his best game of the series.
The Celtics just couldn't get anything going on the offensive side of the ball shooting a horrendous 33% from the field and only had 10 free throw attempts. The C's may be in even more trouble, losing defensive standout Kendrick Perkins went down with a sprained knee. Some fans may point to this as to why the Celtics simply forgot to show up, but last time I checked Perk wasn't about to drop 25 and 10.
However you can't downplay the significance of the big mans presence in the paint. If Perkins can't go in game 7 Doc Rivers will have to rely heavily on his bench that was non-existant last night. The health of Andrew Bynum will also be key as to what happens on thursday, If his knee isn't a henderance he and Pau Gasol will reak havoc in the paint.
The NBA conspiricist would say the league got what it wanted, a game 7 for all the marbles. Now the refs wont have to make bogus calls, and we will finally get a well played basketball game. We can only hope the 07' Celtics don't decide make another appearance and we get the best from both teams.
