PropertyNow has taken a big step in commissioning a ten thousand rebuild of it's site and with the intention of creating a web presence that's equally amenable to both real estate agents and for sale by owners.

PropertyNow sees that this is something totally lacking in the current marketplace.

Watch the site as the new look and more importantly the new functionality comes online over the next 3 weeks

The internet promises to be the saviour of house sellers in Australia, whether they are selling with a real estate agent or via their own efforts in a For Sale By Owner scenario.

Had the internet not had the impact that it has ,then Australian house sellers would have been at the mercy of agents long into the future. Suddenly the internet has given private sellers the ability to market their own home with every bit as much reach as any agent.

Not only will this afford many Australians a new avenue for selling their own home and thus saving huge wads of money but it should have a flow on effect of raising the standard of agent care and lowering their high fees at the same time. The knock on effect is that real estate agents will also have to become ever more efficient in their marketing to remain competitive, while all the while remaining under the pump from the new FSBO companies as well as other agent.

Real estate agents have always canibalised one another and now they will have another market segment to contend with in the Private Sale arena. Many people, myself included believe that this changing status quo is ridiculously long overdue.

You would think wouldn't you, that because there are tens of thousands of agents throughout Australia that competition would have been very strong but this has simply not been the case. With a few exceptions such as the one percent agencies that exist rather sparsely within the capital cities there has been little downwards pressure on real estate agents commissions.

Why is this? It's not necessarily what you think...that agents are greedy. Instead they have long ago locked themselves into very expensive business models courtesy of the print media. Agents simply couldn't afford to reduce commissions to the degree people might have wished, because they encountered such high costs of marketing in their agencies.

There are alternatives now and at PropertyNow the private sale real estate industry is alive and well and saving people thousands every week. A recent tally showed that the business had saved people over 4 million dollars in agents fees.
