ravings

June 23rd 2007 12:59
Well, I stopped writing on this thing. I didn't know if it meant anything. But more to the point i thought trying to think of things to write on it was stopping me from allowing myself to flow with my thoughts. But i feel like posting some shit so i figured, well i may as well post anything if i write it. so here's what i was thinking about tonight, only its not what i was thinking about, because most of those ideas were rounded ideas, but i was thinking about the next idea before i got the chance to write everything. Anyways for anyone who feels like reading along, here it is.

universities need to start publishing articles to wikipedia.

I mean they have to start taking it seriously. Not because it is a threat to them, and not because of something else. They need to do it because that's how information gets spread today. Not in journals. The education establishment has the chance to reach everybody in a radical way. We used to think that democaracy and modernity and all that shit were about extending the franchise. Equality. Public education was one of the key driving tools. Yes it helped to create a national myth, and yes it helped to socialise the masses and modernise the peasants, urbanise the rural. But nonetheless it still embodied a calue in equality in the sense that education was now attainable by all. If it was just cynical then the forces of evil are messing with fire because those masses actually do get the education, and have the chance to fuck them up. Even if they are indoctrinated not to fuck them up. They were ignorant before, with no chance of fucking anyone up. Now they are educated. As time goes on the lines get redrawn further and further back. The vote goes universal. Then culture goes universal. Then minorities start getting rights. It seems like the forces of evil are on a bit of a backslide if we are to understand them traditionally. So lets not hesitate to proceed with dealing what must be a dreadful blow to them. Let's take that education that we have been given the chance to wield, and lets really wield it at the masses, at everyone like we claim we do. Fuck Fuck Fuck, we have to get the education system into the virtual world. And I'm not saying have your lectures available to your studnets in mp3 (or as a fucking 'podcast'). I mean lecturers shouldn't be judged on the journal articles they publish, they should moderate the wikipedia site about the subject.

You shouldn't be in class looking up at the lecturer and have someone whisper to you .

ok Ok ok Ok Ok ok ok ok o ko k

its a university in second life. Although maybe not in second life. It's its own software. You can just go to the website and download the software. and the software first lets you sign up. maybe you have to choose a degree. Anyway you get all the way down to choosing your courses. And you go to your first class. You can have a 3d rendered world if you want, or you can have a tiled view with what's on the board in one, the text of what's being said, etc. anyways graphical interface or not (traditionally considered). And the course has a start and an end but you can join in by catching up, because everything's still on the record. So you go and watch past lectures, and read the readings, see a transcript of the tutes. and then one day you catch up and you can go to the lecture live, and partake in the tute, ask questions etc. The kicker is that you can go to the actual uni in the real world and go to the lecture. But the irony is that the content is maximised for being online, because the people at home can organise what they view and how they view it, and you mighnt not be able to see the board that well if you get a bad seat. And that's the balls.

So people don't publish articles anymore, they edit a wikipedia page. it may seem like this gets rid of creativity, that no original articles can be written because its all set out already. But this is our direction, convergence.

I was just thinking that wikipedia could be bettered by having a heirarchical structure. They do some categorisation, but its not built into the structure. But i just realised that that's exactly the point. The old heirarchies are gone, le grand illusion of boundaries is finally broken. it's a tangled heirarchy. There aren't topics and sub topics and shit. There are just different topics related in different ways, one might have a relation because they are both about wars, while another pair can be related because one is position x and the other is made up of position x, y and z.. Anyways, the structure is good, separation of form and content. Wikipedia is just about the biggest tool ever invented. We think TV and magazines are the winning tool in controling what people think? you think that the masses are hooked on consumerism and reality TV? well if some people who think they take the education idea seriously are not engaging in this, then they are missing the best ever chance to educate. Wikipedia is really something as it is, but think of what it could be. It could lose any notion incorrect or unprofessional or unworthy information. Not that I think those things are valid criticisms, but for those who do, they could be swayed by this entrance of the institution. It's everybpdy on the boat, don't bring all your baggage. Sorry to dissapoint but your university structure is about to become irrelecant, left behind, or worse, eaten by the monster. Now you have the chance to jump aboard the ship if you chose, but you will be on the turf of the new world.

The new world is online, a comparative study in the history of the concept of america as the new world. scrap that, modernity as the new world. online communities are about to become more important than cities.

We occupy the space around us. We wouldn't want to live in a cubicle with enough room for us to move our limbs a bit. but we will live like this in the new city because we will occupy a cyberspace, we will decorate that area arround us, we will interact with our friends in it. It's not the matrix. We don't just plug in and feel a first person experience of walking around in the world. It will be a cyber world. interactive, with different screens and shit. you don't have to walk around or catch the bus or any shit. It more like surfing the web, in that you move around, but not in that sense. But you got your chat to your friends, and you go check out concerts together, or read that paper that's based on what you're friends are reading.

Ok its a sci-fi story and everybody doesn;t know if their friends are real or not anymore. There are some pretty powerful friendbots on the network.

its like, people on youtube, when faced with the question of choosing how they are to be presented to the world, just say, umm, well i'll just point a camera at myself. I'm not gonna do some animation or some shit am i, what a waste of time, i just wanna talk about my reply to dickbrain34 post about the geoethics of cloning embryos. I'm not gonna design something. But that is what youtube is, I'm not gonna go and design my own webpage from where i can interact. you bring it to me. give me a mouthpeice and i'll speak through it. oh yeah i will cause i've got plenty to say. Yo, you feelin me, i've got plenty to say now that you give me the microphone. Yeah you do. You see that shit? they're not that interested in moving, but they've got something to say, so why don't we let them talk to eachother. but once you let them all talk to eachother, you start to look like a little ant, in all of the ideas being thought about and talked about and transmitted and passed on and mutated. your old ideas look like a drop in the ocean. Because the new ideas are the size of seas and there are many many of them. You don't have to kill the old idea, fight people and give them arguments not to think the old idea anymore. Just muscle out their idea by outnumbering it in the scale of what people are thinking about. This sounds so abstract, like everyone is just a vessel and inside them their ideas are fighting with everyone else's ideas, it's like but the ideas can't even touch. But neither can the genes touch each other. That's why the internet is so great, because it give a visual and concrete representation of what it looks like, those ideas in battle. We are starting to get a pretty picture of what the battlefield looks like. Our aim must be to traverse this landscape. Because then the I is an idea. the I is an idea. The I is ideal

You see if we can traverse that landscape, then we would have transcended to the next level of evolution. The cells will never know what its like to be a multicellular organism, the other organs will never know what its like to be a brain, but we shall know what it is like to be an idea. Yes we shall know that because we are an idea. We are an ideal. We is an ideal.

When you transcend to a higher level of consciousness, you do not learn something you, you learnt the importance of something you knew all along. To break into the first subjective consciousness aware of itself, other subjects and thus the objective world, it breaks through you. you know it, but then you realise in what context you knew it, and you try it on, and you feel abit dizzy, the world is radically different now, and the subjective world can never win you back as to what you consider reality. until now.

a mind and an education are terrible thing to waste worse it is your ability to think and possibly believe that what you are musing about is of any consequence to anyone not in your shoes is amazing I am sure that your English teacher is very proud of your ability to spout crap that no one can read because you can't retain the fundamentals of sentence or paragraph structure long enough to string a sentence together are you to lazy to make the effort or have you regressed back to the womb to justify your failure to launch yourself successfully into lifes mainstream I for one am uninspired and underwhelmed by your offering of not so cool ramblings I thank god and all of the ethereal that you stopped writing this what ever it is because it is an agonizingly difficult tome to read let alone to make some rudimentary sense of it.

I am of the mindset that you can do better, and I truly hope you will take the opportunity to do so.

Thanks for your encouragement, no matter how guised you feel you must present it.

Although, I have no intention of becoming what other people want. Like I said at the start, I stopped writing in this because I felt it was disrupting my thought patterns. However, when i do some thinking, I sometimes like to write some stuff down, take some notes, it helps me keep track of my thoughts, but I don't slow down my thoughts to let the writing catch up. I figured it couldn't hurt to post what I write, but I write it for myself and I'm not forcing anyone to read it. I never tried to present it as a polished essay let alone a clear train of thought, and I tried to add a little caveat at the top. I spend enough energy translating myself into other people's languages at uni and at work. Anyway, I'm glad it evoked a response.

ps. It's a bit much to be making assumptions about whether or not I am wasting my education and/or mind or about my 'failure to launch yourself successfully into lifes mainstream'. You can't seriously believe that you know anything about me, can you? Some of my ideas, maybe...
