Rat Killing Champion of the World

February 27th 2009 20:26
The things people will do for a TV!

After disposing of 39,650 rodents, a man from Bangladesh has been crowned a rat-killing champion and has been awarded a 14-inch Sony color television for his efforts.

Read that again - if you kill 39650 rats you win a 14, yes I say, forteen inch TV. It's not even a bloody plasma!

It took Binoy Kumar Karmakara one year to perform the daunting task and he used traps, poison and flooding to capture the animals.

He also kept their tails so that he could keep count. This charming man can now knit them into a beautiful shawl for the lovely women who must be queueing up for dates.

Killing rats is a strategy that was launched by the government of Bangladesh because rats are responsible for the loss of about 10% of the country’s crops. That is a terrible figure for a region of the world where people starve and die in the public streets.

“During the year, our farmers killed around 25 million rats and Kumar Karmakara has been declared the champion for killing 39,650,” said agriculture department spokesman, Abdul Halim.

The Pied Piper is a pussie! Binoy is da man!

Since I'm a rat-lover and animal lover in general, I hope he gets eaten by a giant mutant version of Splinter. Or just whupped by the ninja turtles. That'll do. I'm not picky.

Obviously you two didn't read the article carefully.
They were killing rats to STOP THEM FROM EATING THEIR CROPS.

I am pretty sure we did but the rats breed everywhere when we build crops in a natural environment. I have no problem with them being slaughtered when in huge proportions like this. In my parents area in the 90's they were all required to kill rabbits to stop plague proportions. I have no issue with this at all. But to some people they are still animals with us invading their environment.
