Ra.One- Quite disappointing but still Superhit

SRK's 2011 Ra.One has been quite disappointing in terms of box office figures but the movie due to its intial opening will still attain the Superhit status which is another feather to one of the greatest actors in Bollywood.
Below are the Box office figures for Ra.One for the first two weeks:
No First Day Record For Ra.One
Ra.One will not set a new first day record as the final day collections coming in are well off record pace especially in North and Central India. Some circuits are 50% short of Bodyguard while others are similar.
Bodyguard collected 20.60 crore nett on day one and Ra.One will stay well below that even if the dubbed Tamil and Telegu versions collections are added to the collections of the Hindi version.
Delhi, Punjab, UP and MP were hit hard by Diwali puja as the film went as low as 25% for some shows in these regions and even after Diwali puja collections were no way near the morning levels.
Top All Time Opening Days RA.ONE 2nd
Ra.One has had the second biggest opening day of all time. The top ten opening days of all time are as follows.
1. Bodyguard - 20.62 crore
2. Ra.One 14.63 crore (approx)
3. Dabangg - 14.45 crore
4. Ready - 13.33 crore
5. Threes Idiots - 13.00 crore
6. Tees Maar Khan - 12.82 crore
7. Raajneeti - 10.33 crore
8. Housefull - 9.32 crore
9. Ghajini - 9.13 crore
10. Golmaal 3 - 8.72 crore
Ra.One Scores Big In Week One New Releases Dull
Loot and Miley Naa Miley Hum opened to poor houses, Loot was better at around 10-15% but still very bad. Miley Naa Miley Hum had shows cancelled at many places.
Ra.One (Hindi) had a good 9 day first week of around 98.50 crore nett although it did fall badly from Wednesday but the huge extended weekend total of 80 crore nett plus enabled it to score at the box office. The film has not matched the huge pre-release blockbuster expectations that many had from the film but still has done well due to the initial. The lifetime distributor share is looking to be 65 crore approx and will be amongst top five of all time. The regional versions did average business of around 6 crore nett. HIT
Ra.One Falls In Overseas But Number One Of 2011
Ra.One fell in oversaes and was expected because the trend was there in the extended weekend. Still the film has crossed the $8 million mark with business of around $8.25 million since releases and is the biggest grosser overseas of 2011. The film will do around $9 million in its first phase with the potential to add more in its second phase. Ra.One should finally do business of around 60-70 crore in Overseas. The figures from major markets till date are as follows. SUPER HIT

Ra.One Has 15.50 Crore Nett Second Week
Ra.One (Hindi) has grossed around 15.50 crore nett in week two. The collections after two weeks are around 113 crore nett. The drop from the extended first week is 84%. Bodyguard which had a similar extended first week dropped 81% in its second week.
Even though the film has a big drop in its second week, the overall total is good though with the release of Rockstar today only another 5 crore at best can be expected which will mean it will stay below the 120 crore nett mark. A holiday on Monday has helped collections in week two.
The final nett gross will be the fifth highest ever after Three Idiots, Bodyguard, Dabangg and Ready.
Kareena Kapoor Has Historic Box Office Success
Kareena Kapoor is on a dream run and has seen the sort of box office success in the last 20 months or so that hardly any other actress has ever seen. Kareena in a near 2 year period has delivered four (Three Idiots, Bodyguard, Ra.One, Golmaal 3) of the top ten grossing films of all time.
There may have been a time when a certain artist may have had four top grossing films in the top ten but those releases were not in a less than two year period.
The only other time when an actress achieved a similar feat was Hema Malini in the 75-76 period when she had three films (Sholay, Dus Numbri, Sanyasi) amongst the top ten grossing films of all time and a Pratigya just outside the top ten. Sholay and Dus Numbri were amongst top five
Hema Malini is the most successful actress at the box office and probably the only actress in history to have box office clout in an industry that always goes by the male lead. Since Hema Malini, there have been many top actresses like Rekha, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee but it is Kareena Kapoor in the last two years who dominates as far as the volume of high grossing films go.
Katrina Kaif also had a huge run in 2007-2008 with Partner, Welcome, Race and Singh is Kinng but all these films were amongst the top 15 at that time but with nett numbers not actual grosses as entertainment tax started to come down heavily from 2003 onwards. But with her line up in next 18 months or so it could happen again with gross numbers.
It is true that the Kareena Kapoor starrers are helmed by the reigning Khan's but that will always be the case as its a male lead dominated industry and even the Hema Malini starrers featured megastars like Dharmendra and Manoj Kumar who where as big or even bigger in that era than the Khan's are now.
When actresses have huge box office success be it Kareena, Katrina or even Hema Malini, there are many variables to it but to have four films in the top ten grossing films like Kareena Kapoor has at the moment is still historic because it has hardly happened before as it tough to have all your major films to work in a big way as one or two are always likely to fail you.
Elsewhere, new debut Rockstar fails to impress completely!
Rockstar Takes A Good Opening
Rockstar took a good opening of around 60-65% at multiplexes in the morning shows but early public reports are not encouraging. The multiplexes in and around Delhi were a bit better at 70% plus. The approx opening occupancies at some multiplexes were as follows.

Past box office reports concerning Rascals with A. Devgan and S. Dutt:
Rascals Opens Well But Likely To Struggle At The Box Office
Love Breakups Zindagi opened to a poor 15-20% response.
Rascals opened well on its first day on Thursday which was a holiday with collections of around 7 crore nett approx but reports were not encouraging and the film started sliding the next day and it seems growth is very unlikely and that the first day well be the best day. The four day extended weekend is unlikely to go higher than 25 crore.
Soundtrack was dull with 5-10% opening.
Force took a half decent opening on its first day and failed to grow much over the weekend while the weekdays remained steady but with low collections. The film collected 21.50 crore nett approx in week one.
Hum Tum Aur Shabana had a very poor first week of 1.75 crore nett. DISASTER
Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster was steady on the lower side with 5.25 crore nett in week one.
Mausam collected 3.25 crore nett in its second week and its two week total is around 31 crore nett. FLOP
Rascals Has Poor Extended Weekend
Rascals had a poor extended four day weekend of around 22.25 crore nett. The film got a decent start but could not capitalise as content was not up to the mark. The approx daily breakdowns were as follows.
Thursday - 7.15 crore
Friday - 5.15 crore
Saturday - 4.70 crore
Sunday - 5.35 crore
TOTAL - 22.25 crore
Monday is likely to see a big drop as the film did not show any growth on Saturday and Sunday when collections remained at the level of Friday.
The best business comparatively was in the single screens of UP, CI and Rajasthan but even here the business was below the mark.
