The New Orleans Saints have won their first Super Bowl. The Saints upset the Indianapolis Colts 31 to 17 at Super Bowl 44 in Miami Florida. Many so called experts like myself didnt think the Saints had much of a chance but we were proven wrong when the Saints beat the Colts.

It was thought that Super Bowl XLIV would be a battle between Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. To an extent it was but a Peyton Manning pass intercepted by Tracy Porter and returned 74 yards for a touchdown sealed the victory for the Saints.

Drew Brees did complete 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two td passes with no interceptions in their Super Bowl win over the Colts. Peyton Manning completed 31 of 45 passes for 333 yards, one touchdown and the costly interception to Tracy Porter.

Tracy Porter will always be considered a hero by the New Orleans fans for his game saving pick six of the Peyton Manning pass. It has to be extra special for Tracy Porter to be a Saints Super Bowl hero as he is a native of Louisiana.

The Colts ran the ball more and with more effect than I thought they would against the Saints. Joseph Addai had a solid 77 yards and one touchdown The Colts just seemed destined to win to me right until the pick by Manning.

A key turning point in the game was a ballsy onside kick by the Saints to start the 2nd half that was recovered by New Orleans. The Saints also went for it on 4th and goal but did a stupid run to the right side that everyone knew was coming, and was stopped. But clearly coach Paytons gutsy play calling worked out in the end since the Saints have won their first Super Bowl

Super Bowl 44 Prediction

I will break down the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints, separately then do another section that will have my Super Bowl 44 prediction. I did NFL game predictions for the entire 2009 season and my record was 163-78 for the season. This Super Bowl 44 prediction does not cover the point spread, but I will answer that in the comments if anyone has a question.

This Super Bowl between the Saints and Colts looks pretty good for the fans the NFL. Both teams went undefeated late into the 2009 NFL regular season. The Colts threw two games to rest players and the Saints lost to Dallas then kind of gave up.

One very interesting thing about Super Bowl 44 between the Saints and Colts is Peyton Manning. Manning is the son of Archie Manning a long time New Orleans Saint and Peyton was even born in "The Big Easy." I am sure Peyton Manning would pull for the Saints against any other team but the Colts.

Super Bowl XLIV Breakdown of the Indianapolis Colts

The Colts rode Peyton Manning to the Super Bowl, and would be an average team at best, without him. Peyton Manning takes no name players and makes them household names at wide receiver. Add legitimate NFL weapons like Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne and the Colts have a very potent offense.

The Colts defense is average but did step up a bit in the playoffs by stopping two vaunted running attacks. The Colts defense can sack the quarterback and will be teeing off on Drew Brees to try to disrupt his timing.

Indianapolis has to make their running game work a bit better than it has. New Orleans was able to hurt Favre and rattle him to an extent in the NFC Championship Game. The Colts need to run to keep the Saints from going all out after Peyton Manning.

To beat the Saints in Super Bowl 44 the Colts must also use the clock with a short yardage type passing game to Dallas Clark keep Brees off the field. Peyton Manning is very good at this and it should work out well for the Colts.

Super Bowl XLIV Breakdown of the New Orleans Saints

The Saints are going to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami because of a balanced offense led by Drew Brees. The defense under new coordinator Greg Williams gives up lots of yards but also forces their fair share of turnovers.

New Orleans is not always the pass happy team that NFL fans tend to think they are. Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush are also capable running backs who take some pressure from Drew Brees. What I like about the Saints offense is that Brees spreads the ball around and does not rely on one or two steady targets.

Keys to the Saints beating the Colts in Super Bowl 44

Pretty much the same thing the Colts need to do to win. Keep the other offense off the field. The Saints must get at least 3 turnovers if they expect to beat the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

They won't rattle Peyton Manning but they can force mistakes and must score when they do so. The Saints offense can win a shootout with the Colts if they don't turn the ball over themselves. Reggie Bush may be the X factor in Super Bowl XLIV as a returner or receiver out of the backfield.

Prediction for Super Bowl XLIV- Saints vs. Colts

Peyton Manning is just too good and too experienced. He runs the Colts offense and has a great mind for what will work. The Saints will be very emotional and this may hurt them. The Colts will win Super Bowl 44 over the Saints by the score of 31 to 24.

Jay Novacek's wife passes away

February 2nd 2010 00:04

Jay Novaceks wife has passed away in their Texas home at the age of 45. Profootballtalk.com is reporting that LeAnne Novacek may have committed suicide but those reports have not been confirmed.

Jay Novacek was a big part of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty of the 1990s and is perhaps the best tight end in the teams history. Jay Novacek is a 5 time NFL Pro Bowler and is in the college football hall of fame.

The staff here at Footballdogz.com wishes to extend our condolences to Jay Novacek on the loss of his wife.

Saints and Colts in the Super Bowl

to Super Bowl XILV in Miami. The Vikings-Saints NFC Championship Game was the best ever in some peoples minds. The New Orleans Saints beat the Vikings in overtime 31 to 28. I didnt miss the score too bad when I predicted here that the Saints would beat the Vikings 28-24.

I also extend congratulations Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints on beating the Minnesota Vikings to advance to Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson and the entire Minnesota Vikings team for their reaching the NFC Championship game and playing so well. I think Brett Favre should return in 2010 and play one more season for the Vikings. Brett had probably the best season of his career and I see no reason for him to retire, again

2010 Mock Draft

Welcome to my first 2010 NFL mock draft! If you are new to mock drafts is it simply a list of new NFL rookies in the order I think they will be drafted in. For some great mock draft information read this article. Due to the fact that we don't yet know the final 2010 NFL draft order I will go with how the draft would go as of today's standings. Scott Brown is important because he is a conservative that will vote against the Health Care Bill. The Health Care Bill is important because if it passes as it is now it will finish off the American Economy, as it is intended to do

Gaines Adams RIP

Chicago Bears defensive lineman Gaines Adams has died in South Carolina of an apparent heart attack. Profootballtalk.com is reporting that Gaines Adams had an enlarged heart and died in his sleep.

That is the 2nd death of an NFL player in recent weeks with Chris Henry of the Bengals passing away in North Carolina earlier. Gaines Adams was the 4th pick of the 2007 NFL draft by Tampa Bay and went to Clemson

Sidney Rice laying it on Dallas

Sidney Rice is having a huge game for the Minnesota Vikings in their playoff ass whipping (so far) of Dallas. Jared Allen is starting to be a huge factor as well now that Dallas offensive tackle Flozzell Adams has been injured.

Sidney Rice had been a decent wide receiver for the Vikings until Brett Favre came to town, now he is a very good one. After catching 46 passes in two seasons, Sidney Rice caught 83 for 1,312 yards and 8 scores in the 2009 regular season

Derek Dooley the new coach at Tennessee!

Several reputable (plus this one) sites reported earlier that David Cutcliffe would be taking the Tennessee job. Well we were wrong, former Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley is the new head coach at Tennessee.

Derek Dooly is the son of Vince and brings a 17-20 record to Tennessee in a very strange hiring. Tennessee was clearly getting desperate to hire a head coach to replace Lane Kiffin, and was turned down by numerous coaches
