5. Karena Lam (Hong Kong)
Actress, Singer.
Born 17th August 1978.
Growing up in Canada from a Chinese/Japanese background, Karena was first discovered by a talent scout in her family-owned restaurant. Seeing potential, the talent scout persuaded her to pursue a career in singing in Taiwan. At the age of 15, she left home, and flew all the way to Taiwan to pursue her dream. She released her first album in 1995, and her second album in 1999, but both were only modestly successful.
Her big break came in 2002 when she began acting. In that same year she received two awards; "Best Supporting Actress" and "Best New Performer". In recent years, her acting has improved and we have seen Karena in more challenging roles, most notably her role in the 2005 film "Home Sweet Home", where she plays an insane and horribly deformed "phantom" monster who kidnaps a boy from his genetic mother to claim as its own, and was nominated for major awards again. I think she has one of the sweetest smiles in the entertainment industry, and she also has a cute gentle voice, that seems so genuinely nice. Unlike other actresses, she is not afraid to get dirty and ugly, her role in "Home Sweet Home" really impressed me, and really proves her dedication to acting and flexible talent.
4. Shin Ae (Korea)
Actress, Model.
Born 13th March 1982.
Shin Ae was my favourite celebrity on the Korean hit variety show "We got married". I found her the most kind-hearted and genuine person on the show. She's so nice to everyone around her, she's caring to other people, she's great with the kids, patient, feminine and a great cook. She's great as a model as she has really soft facial features and alluring eyes. She hasn't starred in many TV dramas, and has only appeared in two movies, but i really hope to see more of her in the future. At the moment, she is my favourite Korean performer. Alot of people criticise her for her size, as she has a larger build compared to other girls, but i think she looks healthy, and is great the way she is. She is proof that you don't have to be like a stick to be a successful model or entertainer, and i especially like her and think she is beautiful because of this.
3. Kristy Yeung (Hong Kong)
Actress, Former Miss Asia.
Born 7th January 1974.
Kristy is definitely one of my most favourite actresses of all-time. She has this sweet feminine image, that makes her very likeable. Kristy grew up in Toronto and her break into the entertainment industry came by chance in 1995 on a trip to Hong Kong. Kristy was always shy by nature, but her mother encouraged her to enter ATV's Miss Asia Pageant, which she eventually won, her popularity propelled her into TV dramas and movies. Though she only releases one or two movies or dramas a year, she is still one of the most popular performers and barely has bad press.
2. Michelle Reis (Hong Kong)
Actress, Former Miss Hong Kong, Former Miss Chinese International.
Born 20th June 1970.
Turning 39 this year, Michelle is still as beautiful as ever. Praised as the most beautiful Miss Hong Kong of all time, she is definitely worthy of this title. Throughout her career, she has appeared in many TV dramas and Movies, gaining her a huge fan base, not only from her beauty but also her talent. Michelle married business tycoon, Julian Hui in November 2008, following a very public two-year courtship. This relationship was greatly criticized and publicized for a long period in the press, but it has not changed my opinion of her. I still think she is one of the most beautiful women in Asia.
1. Crystal Liu (China)
Actress, Singer.
Born 25th August 1987.
AKA Liu Yifei
Crystal is just so gorgeous. At just 15 she got her first breakthrough role as Wang Yuyan in "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils", a drama based on the classic wuxia novel written by Jinyong. This drama is such a classic that it has been remade numerous times. When i first watched Crystals version i was amazed by her beauty. Wuxia novels like depicting angelic beauties that are mysterious, yet powerful, and after seeing Crystal, I couldn't think of anyone who could have played the role better. I think many people agreed, and this lead to Crystal following on with many similar roles in "The Legend of Sword and Fairy" and "The Return of the Condor Heroes". At just 21, i see a huge future ahead for her.
In 2008, she got a break into Hollywood, co-starring beside Jet Li and Jackie Chan in "Forbidden Kingdom" as Golden Sparrow. She also signed on with Sony Music Entertainment Japan in 2005, and released a Japanese album.
