Beautiful but F*d up SongsFebruary 27th 2008 02:58
Sometimes I feel that this world is designed to grind people down and make them feel 'less"than by taking their spirits. From the moment of your birth, someone is evaluating your behavior and "grading" it on some level; often comparing it against others. We learn it early. We're not enough. Someone is always better at it--whatever "it" is. And we carry this message with us, and tell ourselves it even when no one else is around to tell us. And then we even start telling it to (or thinking it about) other people, too.
It's a kind of cyclic trap--one person is made to feel less special, and then starts replicating that pattern on someone else. This was the reason for the fill-in-the blank exercise above. Did you fill the sentence in with some version of "Who do you think you are?" This is what I mean. We carry this message around, without even realizing it. It's instant, and it's always there, in the back of our heads, playing in an endless loop: "Who do you think you are? You're not special. You're not cool. You're not good enough." And then we see someone who attempts to act as if s/he doesn't believe that about her/himself and we think, "Who the hell does s/he think s/he is
Songs that Make Me DizzyFebruary 22nd 2008 04:37
I was wondering today If there is a 12-step program for control freaks, if so... I need to give myself up to it, admit my powerlessness in the face of it's grip on me. I fight it tooth and nail, and bargain with God to give me rest from it. I redouble my efforts to use it for the powers of good, not evil. But then there are no atheists in prison when you are some bad girl's bitch.........
I want to go back to those days when I would twirl in my little girl dresses until I was dizzy with high hopes and outstretched arms
Songs for a Fire EvacuationFebruary 20th 2008 04:16
A microwave fire due to improperly "waved" popcorn forced an hour evacuation of a high rise office building where I was attending a meeting today. There were firefighters with hoses, police and rescue trucks, folks chain smoking huddling around speculating what had happened. Standing out in the cold and wind gave me an idea for this post.

Not for the Faint of Heart: Awkward SongsFebruary 18th 2008 03:41
Wanderingfriends and their young adult children were talking about traveling in the car during the teenaged years. The parents were discussing how teens would sometimes believe that there was an imaginary soundproof glass between the front seat and the back seats of the automobiles. The parents remarked that if they were lucky sometimes these trips would turn into productive reconnaissance missions.
The trouble with the "imaginary glass" was that it was not bullet-proof. One young adult told of a time when he and his dad were driving through Walmart parking lot and Ozzy's "Crazy Train" was playing really loud. The sun roof was open and the windshield was vibrating really loud and "Dad was singing at the top of his lungs." The young guy chalked it up to a mid-life crisis or a passive-aggressive protest against 2 Live Crew. His dad quickly said that the experience was "awesome" and "knew I had hit pay dirt "when my son said I had made the old folks on the side walk do a double take
Songs to Sleepwalk ToFebruary 17th 2008 06:14

This insomnia thing really sucks (thanks to meds helping me fight the flu). l am tired of walking down the crowded street of non-sleep. I seem to be completely wired from the metaphorical caffeine of my life, no sleep from the fusion of worry and sheep. up all night with thoughts ricocheting from one thought to another, showing the time slipping by me on the blinking red clock . So I said "SCREW THIS and decided to put together a playlist for other insomniacs or other recovering folks:

Somebody Done Me Wrong SongsFebruary 6th 2008 03:11
I've always been the sort of gal who enjoys the melody of a song and the the story it tells. I pay close attention to the heart-throbbing drama that plays out in country music. Lately I've been hearing an old boy sing about wanting to hear what he calls another somebody-done-somebody-wrong song.
Many of the old country songs are about love. Especially about love gone sour

Car-mercials: Using Popular Music to Sell CarsJanuary 21st 2008 06:31
Recently many songs for advertising come from famous pop artists or well known songs.
You can pay a fortune to use a well known song from The Beatles (if you can get it) or from someone like Bruce Springsteen (if your lucky).
