My Browncoat Hangs Longingly in the Closet

Yesterday I wrote about one of my favorite cancelled series, "Freaks and Geeks". That got me thinking about other favorite cancelled series. My number two pick for best cancelled television show is Firefly. This series concieved by Joss Whedon, (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) premiered in 2002, but was cancelled after only eleven episodes. Firefly was modeled after traditional Westerns but had a futuristic yet "natural" setting.
The series is set in 2517 AD and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a Firefly-class spaceship. The ensemble cast portrays the nine characters who live on Serenity after fighting on the losing side of a civil war, as well as the pioneer culture that exists on the fringes of their star system. In addition, it is a future where the only two surviving superpowers, the United States and China, fused to form a central federal government. Firefly chronicles the characters' experience afterwards as pioneers and immigrants on the outskirts of civilization. The characters were quirky. The dialogue was bright, snappy, while keeping a rural "low country" flavor
