Ramble On - Or How I Get Through This Life

Ramble On - December 2006

I am not totally motivated to make improvements for next year but thought that maybe if my New Year's Resolutions were achievable for 2007 I might actually meet expectations:
1. Do not become a mob wife.
2. Abstain from wearing sequined and sparkly sweaters embellished with puff paints and bows

What a Long Strange Trip It's Been

December 30th 2006 18:33
2006 in a Nutshell

Adios 2006 and good riddance. This has been one of the weirdest years ever. Some of the high points were: the most fabulous friends and family, Talledega Nights, The Departed. Little Miss Sunshine, traveling, BBQ, soul food, fast driving, working out, dancing, and parties. I am not going to give the low points any more energy. Cheers and best wishes for 2007 folks!

Top Ten Worst Bridal Shower Games

Today I was cleaning out my desk and came across a pile of Top Ten Lists written over the years between Wandering cousin and me. They made me laugh so I thought that I would share:

Sing my Song

December 28th 2006 09:41

Fortune smiled on Miswanderlust this evening as Wandering Nephew was stranded at the airport while trying to get back home. After rescuing said nephew, our evening was spent geeking out with his iPod Video and my Nano. We share a love of The Cure and Depeche Mode and eagerly discussed The Cure's upcoming concert in Miami (as Wandering husband glazed over). We listened to Corrosion of Conformity, The Clash, and Rage (just to name a few). Thank God for surround sound and a blizzard in Denver

Holiday Let Up

December 28th 2006 04:57
I know that many folks experience post-holiday let-down, or PHLD. You know that melancholy that many of us experience after the last of the decorations are put away, the gifts have found a place in everyday life and we are back to our routines of work, school and regular life.

I think that the holiday season is similar to taking a great vacation – it's a euphoric time that lasts a relatively short time. The glitz and glamour of decorations, holiday music, and elaborate store window displays make it seem like the world has become one big amusement park. Folks engage in random acts of kindness, strangers smile at each other on the street, and everyone is a little more generous with their time, money, and compliments. With all of that good cheer and goodwill, who wouldn't be sad to see the holidays end

'Twas the Day After Christmas

December 26th 2006 18:46
Richard A. Feinberg, professor of consumer sciences and retailing at Purdue University has released holiday shopping facts and figures based on data from the Purdue Retail Institute, the National Retail Federation, and the International Council of Shopping Centers:

* Although many believe the Friday after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year, it is not. It is the fifth to tenth busiest day. The Friday and Saturday before Christmas are the two busiest shopping days of the year

Do they know it's Christmas?

December 26th 2006 01:59
Is it just me or is this the worst Christmas song ever? Every time you turned on the radio the months preceding Christmas 1984 , you were met with the self indulgent intonations of the artists that made the agony possible....Sting, Michael Jackson, and George Michael just to name a few (not to mention many f list artists). (Talk about your clanging chimes of doom...) I am happy to report that 22 years later, this song has made it to the third ring of hell... the Karaoke bar. In it's new incarnation, it is brilliant. Ain't nothing like drunken patrons "raising a glass for everyone" while belting their hearts out all in the name of holiday cheer.
It is the greatest gift you'll get all year. There is no need to be afraid.... Video of original recording

A Bionic Christmas Carol

December 24th 2006 00:51
Today I was wandering through my local vintage music store and was amazed to find a fabulously obscure holiday record.
