As a writing friend of mine once stated - "stand by for an update". I've been gone for nearly two and a half years. Wow. Now that's an absence. Then again, I've heard of pets doing that and still come home. So here we are again.
Jack the cat is still around, he's four now. Almost five years old
.
So we're back. And Jack has a bunch of little friends now too. More on them, and how I deal with all the joy and frustration cats bring into life. .
Yes I've been gone awhile. I've been trying to organize my writing to best make use of income. So much of what I love to write about, Jack the Cat included, got put aside. Bad move.
So anyhow I'm back, and with more pictures of Jack the Cat, and a new cat - Bandit.
Here's another pic of Bandit
Ever since Alley's death, Jack the cat has stayed nearby. Lately he's begun to take over some of the old traditions which Alley did around the house. Like taking up the desk in the office....
Taking over the space at the old desk...
And reminding me when its time for the morning dish of milk.
He's even taken over an old tradition which Alley started years ago, by coming into the bedroom around 7AM every day and making sure I'm awake. Alley used to do this to let me know it was time to get up; now Jack has taken up this role and I think Alley would be proud of the way he does his job. Rambo, who used to not allow Jack on the bed, now just lets it pass.
Jack has also taken up the tradition of watching over everybody during the evening from atop the couch, like Alley used to do. He's even taken up the same spot, near my head. It's almost like a changing of the guard. Oh, and another tradition Jack continued, which he took over from Alley a couple of months ago, is to be at the back door whenever I come home. I have to wonder if Jack the cat knew Alley's time was coming to an end.
Jack learned an unplanned lesson within the past 24 hours. Creatures die. Alley, the elder of the family passed away yesterday afternoon.

Ok, so over the last few days I've noticed another new thing about my Jack the Cat. Jack likes milk. Now the only reason he got started with the milk is because he saw Alley, the other cat, get her saucer of milk.

I have decided to show all the ways kittens and kids are alike. You would not believe the similarities. Here is the first one. Kids and kittens love open windows. I caught these two on film the other day.

Jack at Night
I found this out with Jack the cat. He's a nightowl. He likes to not just roam at night through the house, but jump and bounce off furniture, do mad dashes between rooms, and wake up people in general. You can actually hear him in different rooms. And then there's the fact that he likes to jump up next to you in bed, say hello with a tap, and dash off again after you wonder what the hell just jumped on you. Oh, and Jack loves the desk, as I find out at least twice a month or so. He also knows how to turn the printer on. I find messes from both him and Tybias every now and then

Yes, you read that right, ear mites. We found out Jack the cat had ear mites a little under two months ago. Stephanie, the roommate, spotted them and I took Jack to the vet to confirm it. So Jack the cat and I got a ride down to the Milan Veterinary Clinic in Milan Pennsylvania. And we did; Jack the cat had mites.

We brought home a "new" old chair the other day. And of course, Jack the cat took to it. See...

Yes, I messed up on a technical point in my blog. My one friend Alice (who manages a vet office) pointed it out to me two nights ago.
