Rain washes out 3rd Commonwealth Bank ODI

The West Indies' hopes of redemption in the one-day series against Australia was ruined by rain in Sydney. The tourists bowled out Australia for 225 but they would only face 1 over reaching 0-6 before persistant rain prevented a result in Sydney. The West Indies have suffered heavy defeats this summer in Australia, in not only the first 2 Commonweath Bank One-day internationals but also the test series as well.
They must now win their last 2 remaining games in the series to draw the series after Australia were completely destructive in the first 2 games. Ravi Rampaul (4-61) and Dwayne Smith (3-45) were the pick of the West Indies attack at the SCG. Michael Clarke was the pick of the Australian batsmen scoring 46, while Ryan Harris' 21 from nine balls ensured the hosts reached a respectable total before they were eventually bowled out.
West Indies benefited early from the four byes and two wides in reply as Doug Bollinger tried too hard to capture the wicket of Chris Gayle for the third time in as many games. But the players left the field at round 7.14 local time and returned two hours later only for the rain to return after one ball sending the players off the field. The game was officially called off at 9.28 with most of the 21,784 crowd leaving the game disappointed in not being able to watch the end result of the 3rd game in this series.
In the selection news for the game West Indies had included Wavell Hinds and Darren Sammy in their line-up, while Australia lost Shaun Marsh to a back injury in the warm-up and left out Clint Mackay, Brad Haddin and Shane Watson. Windies skipper Gayle won the toss and asked Australia to bat first, a decision vindicated when Tim Paine became the first man out, both sides will head to the 'GABBA for the fourth game in the series.
The Alan Border Medal will be announced during the week as well ahead of the 4th game, the summer of cricket will close with a Twenty20 game in Tasmania at Bellerive Oval under lights. Australia will be then headed to New Zealand for a series with them, with their first game being on February 26th.
