Sometimes children are extremely affectionate, however sometimes they just want to be left alone. When a parent wants to give a hug, but the child does not; what reaction should the parent have?
Well, let's ask ourselves this question; if we don't want to be affectionate with someone, how would we feel if we were coerced in to doing so? Not very well. A child should have his/her own say-so in who gets hugs and when they get them.
We should not guilt our children in to giving hugs like "Now my feelings are hurt," or "I haven't seen you in 'x' amount of time, and I don't even get a hug?"
We should embrace our child's autonomy by respecting their wishes when it comes to affection. We need to teach them to hold their ground when it comes to giving out their affection or not. By forcing them to do something that may or may not feel comfortable we could potentially be confusing them.
Our children have preferences, wants, and needs just like we do, so let's respect those preferences by allowing them to make their own decision.
Yoplait Greek Nourish Your Inner Goddess
My wife has a giveaway going on at her blog, which ends tonight at midnight. Oddly enough there is only one person that has entered the giveaway, which means at midnight, if no one else comments, that person automatically wins the Gift Pack pictured above.
In order to be eligible for a random drawing, all you have to do is go HERE and post what flavor of yogurt you would like to try. If you are selected, you can win the Yoplait Greek "Nourish Your Inner Goddess" gift pack that contains two VIP* coupons, slippers, towel wrap, and bath scrub products. These items are pictured above.
The products are very good (yes, I've used the bath scrubs and they're awesome for the feet).
Just hop over there, comment, and have a chance to win some stuff. Sound simple enough? That's because it is simple.
Every time I do a new blog post, it automatically begins with 10 votes. Can someone tell me the purpose behind this?
Also, what purpose do these votes actually serve?
Like I said in my last post, my daughter wanted earrings for her b-day. Well, the deed is done. My daughter now has two beautiful butterfly earrings that perfectly accent her features.
My wife, Zoe, Anakin, and I had to go to Wal-Mart for a bit of shopping. Upon entering Wal-Mart, Zoe immediately said "I want my earrings." Kristy and I decided to head over to the jewelry department after our shopping was done to see what they had available

What is a good age to get your child's ears pierced? Well, I believe that largely depends on the parent and the child.
When our daughter Zoe was born, we contemplated whether or not to get her ears pierced, but ultimately we decided against it. We decided that it was Zoe's decision to get her ears pierced.

Oklahoma has been a conservative state for a long time now. Given this fact, many things that the Oklahoma Legislature does, does not surprise me in the least. However, I ran across an article in The New York Times, and what I found was disgusting to me.
According to the New York Times, the Oklahoma Legislature overrode two pieces of legislation that had been vetoed by Governor Brad Henry

On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that children that are charged with crimes, other than murder, can no longer be given Life Without Parole. (Segura par. 1)
At 13, Joe Sullivan, whom allegedly raped a 72 year old Florida woman, was handed down a sentence of Life with out parole. Sullivan claimed that he had burglarized the woman's home earlier, but said he did not rape her. (Drummond par. 1

Why is real violence on the news okay, but fake violence in a movie not okay? This question has perplexed me for some time now, even as a child. I'm sure we've all had the same questions, but I'm sure many of us differ in our opinions on the matter.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with either. Violence is among us, sometimes on a daily basis, so I'm not sure I understand what good shielding our children from the truth is going to do. They are going to have to deal with it in their lifetime, so I think that by exposing them to it early on (I have yet to decide on how early), we can create a condition in which it is not surprising

My daughter got a taste of blackberries for the first time today. She absolutely loved them, as you can see here.
Mmmmm! Good

According to The Washington Post, a study that has been conducted since 1991, shows that "obedience and academic problems among those who received low-quality care in their first 4 1/2 years of life persisted through their 15th birthdays" (Stein par. 2).
This is a pretty damaging statement, but is a logical one. For working parents, day-care is usually the only option. This can cause a problem because the parenting of our children is being delegated to someone else. This can sometimes be a bad thing because many people that work in the day care facilities are only there because they need a job; not because they love children
