I'm back and blogging on Lasiandra Trees!
LASIANDRA
Just when I thought I had run out of purple ideas I found some info and pics in a book on Jpanese garden plants of all places!.
I used to have one of these trees in my front yard when I was a kid!
Ever drive past one of these and wonder what it was? They're also called glory trees.
The speceis name is Melastroma candidum .
I suspect these are one of those tree species that go in and out of fashion.
The house we were living in at the time was built in the late 1920s .
My memories of it is that its one of thoses trees that looks lovely when in fulll bloom and mediocre the rest of the year and wasnt much of a shade tree but the flowers while they're out are just as lovely as those in the photo!
