What is "The West"

I am no learned scholar. My formal education is limited to public high school and some college. My informal education has been a lifetime of exposure to people of all creeds and nationalities as I have travelled in my work. My opinion of what the west is; is this: A human beings right to freedom, to ownership of property, enshrinment of the idea that the idividuals rights must be protected and that the state serves the people, seperation of church and state with no special priveleges for any church or religion, love of music, science, art and a genuine desire to effect a better life for all to enjoy. I now that the west has not always lived up to these ideals but these are things worthy of holding onto that we are dangerously close to throwing away. If we allow groups to break off within our societies and demand thier own laws out of respect for thier culture or religion we are slipping toward the day when each man or woman can demand thier own law which is no law at all. Civil society demands that we all aquiese to agreed upon standards; when those outside a given society enter into it they have no right to special treatment. I would not expect to go to Saudi Arabia and start loudly preaching the Gospel on streetcorners; yet western societies are being asked to tolerate actions such as forced marriage and female circumcision under the guise of "diversity." A society that is afraid to confront that which is aborrent to it's core values is asking to be swept aside. If the west cannot stand against what it feels is wrong and caves into the PC "all cultures are equal" mantra it will reap a society with no culture above the whims of anyone that wants to claim special exemption to the law. We can stand on the established priciples of our society or slowly fade away under the pressure of political correctness. For those that applaud the slide toward multiculturalism I fear you will be supprised when the groups that so loudly call for special protection now gain the upper hand; I think the PC facade will drop and the real agenda will reveal itself. A house divided against itself cannot stand and the current march toward seperate laws and standards is a method to achieve the destruction of our house.
