Programmed to Write

(I really need to start being more clever with my titles...ugh)

EDITSOOO....I am dissapointed to say that due to the fact that I am working on a dinosaur of a machine for my writing...(its an iBook from 03', hardly a dinosaur but can no longer find ANYTHING compatible with it and therefore my sarcastic frustration) so looks like I will be sticking to CopyWrite which is in fact compatible. That being said out of the three below, I would have purchased Storyist. I liked the layot much better, and found it a lot more fun to use, i.e- way easier to get distracted from my writing.

Okay, so I was having major story dilemmas yesterday. As always, another cool story idea popped into my head and I was all too eager to just drop my current story and start again.

Fortunately, I had enough sense to just write down my idea in my handy-dandy-notebook, and move along with my already developing story.

So word update is an abissmal: 4,187. My inspiration turned to tv last night and I got sucked into the Rachel Zoe Project. I still wrote though. I should be given credit for that right?

Anyway. After having a look through the NanoWriimo forum, I came across this wonderful thing called 'Writing Programs'. Yes, yes. I know. Old news. But to me, its very exciting.

I am in the process of checking out a few different programs. I am MAC based on my writing computer so it leaves options a little limited. Now while I am quite tech-saavy. I am also a Gen X, and like my Cousins the Y'rs, I have absolutely no patience, and I want to be able to get the hang of a program instantly.

So I want a few things from a program:

• Clear and easy writing section

• Quick reference to how many words I have typed

• Notes section

• A place to note down all my characters and their personalities etc etc as well as locations etc.

That's pretty much it.

So I will be looking at a few programs and will be reporting back my thoughts.

I did try a couple yesterday. One was a big fat failure, the other was not.

The first was SuperNoteCard. Basically I didn't like the look of it, so I got bored and frustrated and didn't bother with it. Yep, I rally am that flighty.

The second was CopyWrite. (screenshot below - click it to enlarge)

Now I have to say after playing with this for a few hours last night, I am really impressed. It had everything I wanted from my list AND the added little bonus of a 'GOAL' function which you can type in pages, words or characters and it gives you a percentage rating to your goal. ADORABLE.
Really easy to use straight off the bat. Im going to utilise the demo until I can scrounge up enough cash (its $24.99US) to purchase the registration. And in the meantime I will be testing a few more writing programs while im at it.

Here is the link: LINKY-POO to the CopyWrite site.

NOW I KNOW!! Word Processors such as Appleworks (ugh) and Word do what is necessary to write a novel, and really, you don't need all the other crap. But I WANT it. So thats the end of that conversation. Plus my writing computer doesn't have Microsoft Word on it and Im so over my relationship with Appleworks. We are through...

EDIT: I am currently testing out Scriyner, Writeroom and Storyist first

Have a grand ol' day everyone.

P.S: Have to go off topic here and share my excitement at the fact that I got tickets to PINK!s Funhouse concert. Whoo hoo.
