Volunteers wanted for Migraine trial

Rush university is testing a new non-pharmacological migraine treatment for people with migraines that are untreatable any other way.
The experiment involves inserting tiny electrodes under the skin at the back of the neck and using very small electric pulses to mask the pain response to the brain. The electrodes have been approved by the FDA for use in back and torso pain, and the researchers are hoping to find that these devices also reduce migraine pain.
This looks pretty extreme to me, despite having suffered for migraines for years, however I know the feeling of just wanting to die after having a migraine for weeks. Apparently 70% of suicides are related to physical pain in some way, so having electrodes inserted in your neck may be preferable to continuous and intolerable pain.
I love any treatment that is non-pharmalogical and this one is no different.. contstantly taking drugs to dull or mitigate migraines is harsh on your body.
"The purpose of the randomized, double-blinded study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of occipital nerve stimulation as a treatment for refractory migraine headache," says Dr. Sandeep Amin, Rush study investigator and anesthesiologist who surgically implants the device in the two-visit operation.
Rush is recruiting patients through the Diamond Headache Clinic and is the only site in Illinois in the trial.
