October as Month of Rosary

October 26th 2010 19:08
Rosary
The broken rosary

Praying the rosary is like offering Mother Mary a necklace made of roses.

The month of October is dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary and praying the rosary for the whole month is a good way to show our love for The Lady. The basic prayers to be able to recite the rosary are - Apostle's Creed, The Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, The Glory Be and Hail Holy Queen or Salve Regina.

My broken rosary is a reminder to pray always in order to be connected with Our Lady of Rosary. The connection will be the link to do better each day and be like her in many ways, humble but full of faith and love to Jesus, her dear son who died for us because his love is enormous.

Below are the prayers to know for a complete rosary prayer.

Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day, He rose again.
He ascended to Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Amen.

The Glory Be

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

How to pray the rosary:

Start by doing the Sign of the cross
Pray the Apostles Creed
First Bead - Our Father
followed by 3 beads - Hail Mary
One bead - The Glory Be

Each decade start with:
1 bead of Our Father, followed by 10 beads of Hail Mary and 1 bead for The Glory Be

Hail Holy Queen will be the last prayer after 5 decades, ending the rosary.

St. Francis of Assisi Prayer

October 20th 2010 19:26
St Francis de Assisi
St Francis de Assisi

This is one of the prayers that I love so dearly, reminding myself to be a better person each day. St Francis de Assisi is a role model for simplicity, humility and love.

A lot of times, it is very hard to be a person of peace with a heart full of love, who can easily pardon with faith, one that hopes to bring light to those who lacks joy in their life. Life is full of greed, evil thoughts and selfishness that all we think is "ME" first, forgetting those who need more understanding than we do, those who have nothing to receive and those we forget to pardon because of our false pride.

This is a prayer, with a song version that really touched my heart every time there is a chance to sing it. It is filled with good thoughts, to right a wrong action and concern for others, always seeking the Divine Master for guide and grace, to be giving more of oneself than to be full of it. That all we do good will one day come back with more love, hope and faith...

The English version of the prayer reads as follows:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon:
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope
where there is darkness, light
where there is sadness, joy
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

Perhaps the original publication of the prayer was submitted anonymously to the French publication La Clochette in 1912.

An alternate version is found in Chapter 11 (Page 99) of the "Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions", a book published by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace;
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen.

A popular hymn version, adapted and set to music by Sebastian Temple, ©1967 by OCP Publications, is Make Me A Channel of Your Peace. It is an anthem of the Royal British Legion and is usually sung every year at the Service of Remembrance in November at the Royal Albert Hall, London. It goes as follows:

Make me a channel of your peace,
Where there is hatred let me bring your love,
Where there is injury your pardon Lord,
And where there's doubt true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace,
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope,
Where there is darkness, only light,
And where there's sadness, ever joy.

O Master grant that I may never seek,
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we are born to eternal life.

The Lord's Prayer

October 15th 2010 19:02
Our Father who art in heaven...
Our Father who art in heaven...

The Lord's prayer is all I need when praying, complete and simple. The prayer includes supplication, forgiveness, praising, thankfulness and guidance.

As we gather together with a simple meal, we share our thoughts and self just being there. The food and the roof serving as a reason to gather, share a meal as well as part of our life when we start sharing what is going on in our day. It is a brief moment but is powerful enough to understand that life is full of strength when we are bonded as one. It is wonderful to eat with friends and family, sharing laughter, joys and sorrows when time allows. It is a time to triumph from our failures and lean on somebody to cry on a shoulder. This very short prayer is one way of saying thank you to our friends and family who shared a meal each day, a word and we are grateful for those moments. It is also a time to ask for help when it is necessary.

Be joyful, thankful, understanding, and learn to forgive yourself as you forgive others of weaknesses. Most of all, praise The Father for being the center of our lives, together, one in faith.

hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Our weekly newsletter print this prayer and novena to St. Peregrine, people who have cancer as their patron saint. This is the first time I have encountered this prayer and know that there are people who have battled against cancer. Cancer is a disease that affects a person's cell, growing uncontrollably and at times spread everywhere in one's body depending on how cancerous it is.

Thought I'd share this prayer and hope for the best for all those who are suffering from cancer
