Practice Pointer - Punch Bag

Have you ever played the punch bug game? The gave involves spotting a VW beetle car when you are out and about driving, and when you spot one, you punch the passenger gently in the arm and yell out "punch bug!".
When I introduced this game to my family, we had only noticed one or two VWs in a week. Within a week or two, we were spotting up to six in a day.
This is a perfect example of how your brain works and, in particular, the Every day your brain is filtering the world around you. What you plug into your subconscious brain will determine what gets through to your conscious brain. Setting your own RAS a task is a way of determining how you filter the world around you and what gets through to your conscious mind. It is not as though more punch bugs were all of a sudden driving around on the road. It was that our subconscious filters knew to look out for them.
It is the same in life and in practice. If you can set your subconscious brain to look out for certain things that you do want , for example a specific, well thought out goal, then you will notice the things around you that will bring you closer to that goal. This is part of the function of your own RAS.
Program your RAS well, and you will suddenly notice things around you that you have never noticed before, and constantly have the opportunity to move toward what you desire in life.
