“On the Importance of Presence”
Dr Shara Downey, a Powerful Practices client who practices in Singapore, recounted the following story recently to her coach Doug Herron:
“I was scheduled to have a massage this week. After arriving, I changed and sat in the cubicle waiting for the lady who was to provide the massage. She attended to me 10 minutes late and gave the excuse that she was eating! She then proceeded to pound my body to assess for tension areas or to tenderize me…I am still not sure which. I felt as though she was going through the motions very quickly as if she wanted to hurry up the 1 hour massage (how can one speed up time?). I asked her to leave within 10 minutes and I changed and left.
What I got from that experience was PRESENCE…I realized that my patients can feel through my hands. They can feel what I am thinking or doing and know when I am not concentrating on them.
It was a great reminder that half of the healing is in SHOWING UP.”
