Points of View

Going down the road, I get to see and hear things most people dont. The talk at truck stops changes from one state to another. It depends on whats interesting and important to the people who do the talking.
Im in New Mexico right now and overheard a conversation last night. Two guys were talking about Bill Richardson, the New Mexico governor. Hes in South America, Venezuela to be exact, trying to talk Chavez into releasing some American prisoners. He speaks spanish and has better luck communicating south of the border than most people. He also has the clout to make people listen to him. He used to be an ambassador.
So these guys were arguing about whether he should be trying to get the prisoners freed. One said it was a good thing to do and the other one pointed out that theyve been there for years. Why now? One of them said that Chavez is a bad dude and a dicataor (Ive heard that from other people, too) and Richardson is no better than Carter for talking to the bad guys. The other one said he was doing it at the request of the families of the prisoners.
It was sort of like listening to the WWF, and I was waiting for one of them to throw the first punch.
Richardson sounds like a stand up guy, but he should have done something sooner. Its too bad he dropped out of the presidential race. I haven't heard of Clinton or Obama doing anything to help anyone but themselves. Richardson would have been a better president than those 2.
