Clinching time

May 10th 2010 19:32
Alright here we go Boston! Tonight is a night to get amped up and ready to root on our Bruins. The Garden should be rockin tonight with the Bruin's able to clinch a birth in the Eastern Conference Finals with a win tonight at home.

After a hard fought loss on friday night in Philly, the Bruin's have another chance to take out the Flyers. Only two teams in NHL history have ever rallied back from the 3-0 series deficit. And the Bruin's certainly don't want to add the 2010 Flyers to that list.

The last game, even though it was a loss, was a great display of courage and the Bruin's never die attitude. Rallying back from an early 2-0 deficit and then battling back once again after giving up a late 3rd period goal, the Bruin's still have their confidence. The Bruin's Mark Recchi tallied the game tying goal with under a minute left in game 4 to force OT. The Bruin's had their chances to win in OT but ended up on the short end of the stick when the newly returning Simon Gagne recording the overtime game winner.

The late game heroics by the Flyers ended the possibility of the 4 game sweep, but gave the B's an opportunity to close out the series at home. The Game is tonight at 7, and its finally on NESN.

The Bruin's have dealt with monstrous losses all season from players injuries and their mid season 10 game slide. But that has all changed now. The B's are playing with grit and determination. They have lost Sturm, Krejci, Seidenberg, and Mcquad, but it seems that every guy we lose another guy steps up and fills his roll. That is all we can ask for I suppose. Lucic has picked up his play and Satan is arguably our best player for this entire playoffs. Savard needs to step up now to fill the void left by Krejci and so does Bergy.

But our most unsung hero of the playoffs has been our defensemen. And the defenseman in particular is Dennis Wideman. Wideman spent the latter parts of this season getting booed and wished out of a B's uniform (I am just as guilty as anyone) but I can accept and admit a mistake and this guy has stepped up big time. Wideman is tied for second on the team in scoring with 10 points (1G 9A).

A win tonight is not a necessity, but it is something that would really benefit the Bruin's. They could use the rest and the confidence builder to rebound from a close defeat. So let's see it Bruin's! Make this city proud. Get us to the Conference Finals! Let's Go Bruins!

Once again the game is tonight at 7 on NESN! Must watch game tonight!

Savy gets the game Winner

May 3rd 2010 14:48

In my opinion the best story of the playoffs, has already happened. Marc Savard, missing the last two months due to a grade 2 concussion, rips a slap shot near side beating Brian Boucher. I hope you all watched the game or at least the highlights. I know Savy likes to celebrate emphatically but after watching him throw his stick into the stands and then get mauled by his teammates I had never seen him so amped up. But let's throw this blog into reverse and do some game analysis.

The Bruin's came out and absolutely dominated the Flyers for the first 10 minutes of the game. I believe Tuukka took a nap in the crease during the onslaught. Just under three minutes into the first period a loose puck was sitting about 10 feet in front of Boucher, and Steve Begin who got the action going on that shift was there to snatch up the puck. He snuck a short side wrist shot by Boucher to take the early 1 goal lead. It was Begin's first ever playoff goal.

The onslaught continued at an immense pace. The game started to slow down right about half way through the first. And just ask Patrice if he minded the change in tempo. At about the 8 minute mark, Patrice decisively won a faceoff back from the right faceoff dot, and back towards Wideman. Dennis Wideman stepped up and ripped the biscuit on net. With Danny "tiny" Briere trying to bully Bergy out of the crease, Patrice was able to body Briere out and tip the puck past Boucher for a first period lead of 2-0. The period ended with the B's up by 2 goals.

The second period had some sloppy play and some defensive breakdowns. First the puck was dumped in and retrieved by Mike Richards. He through it at the net, and after a quick scramble the puck was slid back to the point where Ryan Parent skated right to the puck and ripped a bomb past Tuukka. The lead was cut in half at 2-1. The B's later got a powerplay and took advantage of it. With about 20 seconds remaining in the man advantage Johnny Boychuk loaded up for a slap shot at the point, the puck was blocked away and right to Miro at the right hash mark. He quickly pulled the trigger and beat Boucher to the near post. The Bruins quickly rebound to get the 2 goal lead back at 3-1.

As we all know, the Bruins penalty killing squads were perfect in the first round against Buffalo. The Bruins were the only team who didn't give up a single power play goal in the opening round. But the perfection could only last for so long. A quick power play goal was netted by Chris Pronger who tore a slap shot past Tuukka Rask to the far side. Once again cutting the B's lead in half at 3-2. The second period ended at 3-2.

The third period was a battle between two hungry teams fighting for momentum. The Bruin's had a quick break out and dumped the puck to the right of Brian Boucher. Krejci was the first man in on the forecheck and battled for the puck. He popped the puck up the near boards where it found the stick of Satan. He pulled a quick slap shot that was blocked down through the slot. Krejci who rotated to the front of the net after winning the puck battle in the corner, was "Johnny on the Spot." He picked up the loose puck and moved in on Boucher untouched. Krejci who might have the sickest hands on the Bruins pulled a forehand, backhand, then back to the forehand deek on Boucher. Getting Boucher down on his stomach, Krejci finally moved the puck to his forehand and deposited the puck into the empty net. Gaining a 2 goal lead for the third time in the game, the B's were up 4-2.

With a comfortable 2 goal lead, the Bruin's sat back on their heels a little more than they should have. About 4 minutes after Krejci put the B's up by 2 again, Mike Richards was able to pick up a garbage goal on the powerplay. He was standing off to the left of Rask, right where the puck popped out of a scrum after a Rask save. The captain Richards tallied his third point of the game (1G, 2A) and once again cut the Bruin's lead in half.

And then the unthinkable happened. With just under 4 minutes remaining, Tiny ass Briere skated through the neutral zone with the puck. He miraculously split the defense and moved in on Rask. Leaving Wideman and Hunwick to ponder how the hell a legal midget could squeze by them. Briere throw a quick backhand in on Rask which he blocked away, but was unable to contain his rebound. The puck squirted back out right onto Briere's stick and went top shelf beating the scrambling Bruin's goaltender. The game was knotted up at 4 a piece. And just to add to my already increasing blood pressure, the Bruins lost an offensive zone faceoff which was quickly turned into transition hockey by Aaron Asham. He let a big time slap shot go from right inside the Bruin's blue line. The shot caromed off Rask into the high slot. Darryl Powe was flying in with Asham on the far side and was hunting for the rebound. With a tremendous display of athleticism Tuukka was able to lunge out with the paddle of his stick and sweep away the rebound, which looked like a sure goal if Powe had gotten to it first since he had beat the Bruins defenseman to the spot.

The game was headed into overtime locked up at 4 a piece. The Bruin's came out ready to win this game in the sudden death overtime. They completely dominated the play from the drop of the puck. The Bruin's outshot the flyers in the overtime 15 to 4. Brian Boucher was really on his game but wasn't able to single handedly hold down the fort. At about the 6 minute mark left in the first overtime, Marc Savard won a faceoff back to Big Z. He took a hard slap shot which was fended off by Boucher. The puck slid over to the far side where Miro faught off the defender and left the puck behind for the oncoming Marc Savard. Without any hesitation Savy ripped an absolute bomb on Brian Boucher. The shot went high short side over the Flyer's goaltender. Boucher had no chance. The puck looked like it was slightly defelected by the Flyer's defenseman. With the game winning shot coming off our newly returned offensive stud's stick, the Bruin's took game 1 with the final score being 5-4.

Let's just elaborate on how fucking awesome and surreal Savy's game winning goal was. First of all, sometimes Savy looks to pass to much. He is a playmaker, but he has great goal scoring abilities. And there is nothing that makes me more excited then when he looks shot first then pass. This is exactly what he did, without any hesitation, he ripped the game winner by Boucher. Hopefully this will restore his confidence and have him be more goal minded, because he always has the ability to make any and every pass necessary on the ice at any point in time. Secondly, is there a better story than that? A guy who had a grade 2 concussion, his season appeared to be over, comes back, and in his first game records the game winner in OT. Now that is clutch, or an act of determination and hard work. Either one works for me. Congrats Savy, the only downside to that is that we Bostonians expect you to score every game. haha. Not such a bad thing at all.

I figured I'd have to save the bad for the end. Our regular season goal leader, Marco Sturm, is now out for the remainder of the year. He suffered a torn MCL and ACL in his right knee. The seemingly innocent collision on the side boards in the first shift of Saturday's game, ended Sturm's hopes of a successful playoff run. Sturm will have surgery within 4-6 weeks from the date of the injury (May 1). His expected recovery time is an estimated six months post-surgery. Sturm hasn't produced much in the playoffs, but he has been a steady left winger all season who sees significant time on both the penalty kill and powerplay. His determination and grit will be sorely missed. Let's just hope another one of our young guys or the end of our bench can pick up their play and fill in for the veteran Sturm.

Game 2 is tonight at 7. I believe the game is on Versus. But NESN often covers the games as well. Let's see if the B's can take a commanding 2 game lead with another home win tonight. LET'S GO BRUINS!

Thank You Montreal

April 29th 2010 13:05
As I hope you all got a chance to watch the #1 Seeded Washington Capitals absolutely collapse against the #8 Seeded Montreal Canadiens. I am speechless. After watching game 5 where the Caps seemed to completely loose faith in themselves, I was thinking that the experienced Habs have what it takes. And looky here, they did. Decisively winning in Montreal to force a game 7 in Washington, the Habs had the Caps on the ropes.

Behind the absolutely spectacular goaltending of Halak, the Canadiens won three straight games to advance to the conference semi-finals. Halak, only giving up 2 goals in 2 games, while facing nearly 100 shots, is absurd. This kid got hot and the Habs jumped on his back and rode him all the way to a series win. I cannot believe how well this kid performed. What he did was epic. Just purely amazing.

So upon the eve of one of the greatest collapses in playoff history, the Canadiens have now supplied the Boston Bruins with home ice advantage. Yeah how fuckin histerical is that. The 6, 7, and 8 seeded teams advanced. This is why the NHL playoffs is the best playoff season of any sport. No one can truely predict what will happen. Matchups have such a huge deal with hockey, and now the Bruins have the best possible match up against the Flyers.

And the Montreal Canadiens now have to play the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The experienced Penguins are going to pose a much greater opponent than the defensively challenged Capitals. I am excited for both these Eastern Conference Matchups.

The Western Conference Semi-Finals are also set in stone after Detroit routed Phoenix. The Red Wings are playing the playoff second round virgin San Jose Sharks. This is the most intriguing Western Conference match up for me. A team full of experienced Vets playing a team with new playoff confidence in the Sharks. Look for this matchup to be high octane and have a very high compete level.

The second match up is the Chicago Blackhawks vs the Vancouver Canucks. This is a 2 seed vs 3 seed matchup. Has the potential to be a goaltenders dual, or a high scoring shoot out. No one can predict how these teams will play by their first round performances. Both teams had very highs and very lows in games with no real momentum in either one's favor.

And on to the Next one

April 27th 2010 15:56
pussy

The return of Thomas Vanek didn't mean shit Lindy Ruff and all you other Buffalo Sabre loving jack asses. All I heard and read from that shit bum squad is that they don't have they're super star and blah blah fuck that. What about us? We have battled injuries all damn year. We have been playing with Providence's top defensive pair for more than half the season. And don't forget that our super star, Marc Savard was injured for the latter part of the season and the entire first round unlike pussy diving Vanek who hurt his vag when he stubbled over his kankles.

The B's took Command of the Series

April 20th 2010 18:46

Alright.. I couldn't write this blog immediately because I was still coming off my massive hard on I had all night last night and into this morning. You could have called me Happy Gilmore the way I was freaking out during every second of the game. First of all, if you aren't enjoying these NHL playoff games, not just the Bruins, then you cannot call yourself a sports fan. Every game has been gritty, nasty, physical, and any other fucking adjective you could imagine.

We did it!

April 12th 2010 02:41

The B's did it! The Bruin's on a 3 game win streak are taking their momentum right into the playoffs. I think I should probably coach the Bruins, or at least be assitant? I mean let's be serious, I called out Wideman and his play has gotten better as of late. I called that Satan is going to be a huge part of our playoff push, and he probably has been our best forward down the stretch. I call out Blake and Ryder and they both ended their goalless streak during this win streak. So basically I am responsible for this playoff birth.

little defense, big win

April 9th 2010 13:49

With 3 of our top 5 defensemen out, we were still able to maintain a strong defense against the Sabre's last night. Andy Ference, Mark Stuart, and Dennis Seidenberg, all injured for the Bruins, missed the game last night. Ference who has been nothing but IR hall of famer since joining the Bruins, has been a big dissapointment. Mark Stuart has also been on and off the injured roster this season. But our young defensemen have been stepping up their game. Matt Hunwick, in my opinion has been one of our most consistent defenseman all year, has been playing great. He has really increased his ice time and his play has very solid. Johnny Boychuk who has been a great surprise for the Bruin's in the wake of recent injuries, had another solid game. He has really improved his game. Coming off the Defensive Play of the Year in Providence, his transition to the bigs has been effortless. However, we have the P-Bruins top 2 defenders, well 3 if you count Boychuk. The lack of experience in the back end really worries me. None the less, behind the supurb play of Tuukka Rask we were able to fight for a much needed win.
