Playlist # 1

There's a site I go to that I actually like to do music recommendations in. I'm taking my best-of's from those playlists as an introduction to this new blog. But I'm going to do one better, instead of just a list, I'd like to tell you why I think you should check it out. I will also try my best to find an mp3 or a youtube link to attach if interested.
1) Rose Red - Emilie Autumn
As of now, I am in love with this woman, seriously, she writes her own songs and poems (which she recites on her cds), draws the art for her cds and plays viola, electric violin, guitar, piano and that's just off the top of my head! This is from her Enchant album, her early look that blends a Tori Amos-like sound with her own Victorian-Gothic spin. As her career has gone on she's become more bizzare and literary with her music. A great album to buy would he her Laced/Unlaced of just instrumental work.
2) Kiss You Off - Scissor Sisters
Scissor Sisters... there's not much to say. Yeah they may have been out for awhile, but their popularity in the altern-pop is still unknown for a few people -- like me up until a few months ago. Anything that is danceable and this definitely is, plus they are a band that proves themselves to make great retro pop that can be fun to dance to with some songs and be amazingly profound like in my other favorite "Return to Oz."
3) C'mon - Go Betty Go
Another facet of my music is girl pop/punk and although I don't know enough of this band, they're danceable and apparently this is one of their most popular songs with their first line-up. Betty, the one with the glasses, is hot as hell.
4) Together Forever in Love - Go Sailor
Another facet of mine, twee-pop which leads me to my secondmost favorite band of all time later on in the list. This song is from the soundtrack to "But I'm a Cheerleader" which features a bunch of great twee pop plus another great song in the link box "Ray of Sunshine."
5) I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me - Annie
This would have to be one of my absolute favorite singers of all time; but she is not so well known and if you know her, you're my new best friend! Her last album Anniemal was considered a great album by Rolling Stone and she has been described as an "indie version of Kylie Minogue." Any other songs to suggest? I'd definitely say "Heartbeat" or "Me Plus One"
6) Shattered - The Trucks
While not one of the best looking lesbian-oriented bands ever, they definitely have great music but it's been difficult to finding more mp3s besides "Shattered' and "Zombie" (which one of its lines is in my signature). If "Shattered" sounds familiar to any of you, it is played at the end of The L Word in Season 5 when Shane is running away from those bridesmaids.
7) Nothing Compares 2 U - All Angels
All open minds enter here, for this is a pop-opera take on the song. These girls are stunning and I fully admit to burning together both of their albums since these are hard to get in a normal CD store. The first girl who sings (although I get them all mixed up sometimes) was an extra in a Harry Potter film.
8) Destroy - The Eyeliners feat. Joan Jett
Again, I don't know enough about the band but I have the feeling that Joan Jett is one of their idols, because not only is she apart of the song and video but they also have a song called "What Would Joan Jett Do?" which is just as great. Again, another great song to dance to.
9) TKO - Le Tigre
]Deceptacon - Le Tigre
I seriously can't decide between the two songs because Le Tigre is definitely my favorite band, nevermind I'm secretly in love with the androgynous one. Just great to dance to and Kathleen Hanna is such a legend!
10) Loopy Loopy Love - The Brunettes
This is a great band from New Zealand, with one of the most hottest girls for a lead singer, Heather Mansfield (nevermind the fact that I have a huge thing for those Kiwi girls). Another great song of theirs is "Brunettes Against Bubble Gum Youth (BABY)" which Mansfield also plays clarinet on.
11) There's a Girl - The Ditty Bops
For the record, I do not fall into hypes like Gray's Anatomy, but my cousin said this was a great song and I agree. Because I'm one of the biggest Beatles fans I noticed the guitar riff is slightly reminiscent of the earlier stuff. Another claim to fame for the girls is they are the band that was featured on stage with Marina on the L Word when performing "Les Girls" on stage.
12) Pull Shapes - The Pipettes
They're cute as hell and even though they've had a best-selling album in the UK and slightly famous for their song being featured in "The L Word" they're still not quite popular. Well they won't be now considering the one with the glasses and the dark haired one left for other projects. Then the new line-up the blonde's sister left. So now there were two and I'm not looking forward to what's to come for them. The video is based on the famous "Candy Man" scene from Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
13) Brand New Key - The Dollyrots
Kelly Ogden mixes absolute adorableness with rocking licks with a remake by Melanie's "Brand New Key" which they do enough covers rocking up Dirty Dancing classic "Be My Baby." Just fun to dance to and whatnot, and the back-up to Kelly is adorable. Another song? Oh, try the video to "But I'm Awesome" which is more well-known for being in a Kohl's commercial.
14) Mister Driver - The Plasticines
The second song in the video is Mister Driver, the first one is Shake (Around the Fire) -- I know, I can't understand them either but they're adorable, they're French, and damn they're hot as hell rockers!
15) Girl, You Shout! - Dressy Bessy
My top favorite band next to the Beatles, Dressy Bessy who when seeing them live I literally died and went to heaven -- while my girlfriend was busy checking out Tammy's legs. They are retro and they are awesome AND they have a new album out called HOLLERandstomp which is more Beatlesque than their original twee sound from the soundtrack of "But I'm a Cheerleader"
An extra video of "Girl, You Shout!" again only because it's so ridiculous and fun.
