Playing Monopoly In Real Life
November 16th 2011 17:50
For those who don't know the game Monopoly
it is rather straight forward.
All players start equal; same cash, same spot, and then comes the throw of the dice.
This random event, these random spots decide your fate.
If you are lucky you land on property you can buy and go around the board, maybe picking up a Chance Card which gives you that extra bit of opportunity.
The purpose is to get as much wealth as you can. Buy as much property, build as many hotels, and bankrupt the other players.
The winner is the last person left; s/he owns almost everything, s/he has all the money, and the second to last player has been bankrupted.
It is a game of raw capitalism. There is nothing else in the game. The throws of the dice are all that stands between winning and losing once one has developed the true robber baron spirit.
Playing the game in real life is, as referred to previously, Capitalism.
In Capitalism nothing is more important than money. Money buys power, respect, comfort, people, in fact it is the only criterion.
You'll see some of the ugliest, evilest people being treated as a diety because they have money.
You'll see whores who have marketed themselves correctly being deferred to as royalty because of money.
Whether you can read or write, whether you are spiritual or not, whether you are good or not, has absolutely no bearing whatsoever.
On Star Trek, most significantly Deep Space 9; the character of the Ferengi was spotlighted.
Worshipping Capitalism they would sell their own mothers for a profit, for Profit was the purpose of their being.
One could be amused by the Ferengi until one appreciates that the mindset of a 'Quark' exists on Earth, in Real Life, and that the Western World is moving inexorably to the End Game in Monopoly.
The Chinese finally 'got it'.
Finally realised it wasn't ideology one uses to fight the West, it's Money. If one becomes a really good player of Monopoly and gains a lot of wealth, one can force the other players to sell valuable property.
If one forgets about people, about standard of living, and goes after making as much money as possible for themselves they will become so successful that they can rule the world.
What we are seeing, and have seen since about 2006, is what happens when Capitalism rules. What happens when the Earth becomes one big Monopoly Board.
