Pillar Articles are lengthy posts which cover a particular subject in detail and which stay relevant over time. Examples include "How to write a good speech" or "What to look for when buying a second hand car" or "A brief history of the Middle East". You should aim to build up a collection of Pillar Articles over time posting perhaps one or two per month but the more you write the better.
If people find them useful they will link to them from their blogs which will refer readers directly and encourage the search engines to give a good ranking to your article and and your blog.
Pillar articles are often in the form of "howto" articles or lists. Readers do seem to love lists! Examples include "The top ten ways to attract a sexy lover" or "The top ten tricks of Real Estate Agents".
You can also submit good pillar articles to social news sites such as digg.com, slashdot.com or del.icio.us. If your post is popular on these sites it will generate large amounts of traffic.
