Pietersen, Flintoff may miss Ashes?

While it is not sure what the gravity of the Kevin Pietersen injury is, it has been said that he may need to play through the world's premier test match series with pain-killers and this cannot be good news for the hosts.
Pietersen has been diagnosed with having a back injury, but has not been able to treat it yet, with a calendar that is full of cricket. He is currently featuring in the ICC World T20 and had played in the West Indies series before this, which had been preceded by the IPL.
Immediately after the ICC World T20, England will play hosts to Australia for the Ashes.
On the other hand, Andrew Flintoff who had to cut short his IPL visit due to another injury and did not feature in the West Indies series or the ICC World T20 has begun bowling off his full run-up, but it is not sure whether he will be able to regain his full fitness before the start of the series.
Flintoff had been instrumental in Australia's defeat in the 2005 Ashes.
