I have elected to go with a mix of proven stars, game breakers, possible break-out stars, and up and comers, as well as moneymakers.

In defence I have Chad Cornes as his ability to play forward or in the midfield are vital, Mackie and Taylor are going to improve as will drum. Grimes and Hill will establish themselves this year, while Malceski, coming back from injury is my money maker.

Cross is my proven pointscorer in the midfield, while Pendlebury, Selwood and Boak will all step up even more this year. Hasleby is my money maker after coming back from injury while Dangerfield has massive wraps about him.

Dean Cox is a must despite his price. So far above any other ruck its not funny. McIntosh is an able back up in this area.

For the forwards, I have proven scorers in Pavlich and Deledio, Constant improvement in Didak, Cloke and Roughead makes them good buys, and Davey on the verge of breaking out was another one I liked, while Anthony has shown good pre-season form and is my money maker down forward.

My bench is filled with young players with big wraps. Beams, Robinson, Currie and Sidebottom have showed they can match it with the best, while Walker and Blight are star reserves players waiting in the wings. Trengove and Sullivan should get games as well hopefully.

AFL NAB Cup Final Preview

March 9th 2009 05:01
After three and a half weeks of playing youngsters, trying out different tactics and seeing who will make it and who won't, two teams are left to play off the NAB Cup Grand Final: Geelong and Collingwood.

Geelong ended South Australia's hopes of an NAB Cup victory by defeating Adelaide and Port Adelaide in successive weeks, before overcoming an undermanned Carlton squad last week. The Pies had done it a bit easier, easily accounting for a depleted West Coast side by 11 goals, then comfortably defeating Richmond, and Essendon by seven goals.

Geelong will be much stiffer opposition for the Pies with Geelong Coach Mark Thompson saying that this will be a dress rehearsal for Round 1, while the Pies will be playing close to a full strength squad once again.

Dayne Beams is almost certain to get a gig in the final after two strong performances, while Steele Sidebottom was another who showed signs that he has good potential. Gary Ablett Jnr. was held at bay last week by the young Carlton players, but Harry Taylor and Paul Chapman were up there once again.

Collingwood are glad to have the "Human Glove" back, in Simon Prestigiacomo who did the job on Matthew Lloyd last week, only allowing one goal. John Anthony confirmed his spot in the forward line booting seven goals last week for the Pies. While the Cats will welcome back Bartel and Selwood along with a host of names this week to try and overcome what has been a solid pre-season for them and the Pies.

My tip: Geelong by 12.

Another season is upon us

March 9th 2009 04:42
After one of the biggest shocks in the football world - Geelong, after winning 21/22 H&A games lost to Hawthorn in the 2008 Grand Final, both teams are raring to go in 2009. Collingwood are also back, along with suprise packets Western Bulldogs and St. Kilda, all have a good chance of winning the premiership. Essendon, Carlton and Richmond are building good young lists to be competitive over the next few years as well. Brisbane, Adelaide and Port are moving up the ladder to challenge a few teams over the next year, while Sydney are searching for more youth as their list has given all they pretty much can give. Melbourne, Freo and West Coast are rebuilding, while the Kangaroos are always up there, can they win it? Who knows? Here's my thoughts on Season 2009.

Can win it: Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood

With luck on their side: Bulldogs, St. Kilda, Kangaroos

Underdogs: Carlton, Richmond

Good value for money: Brisbane, Port

On the down: Adelaide, Sydney

On the up slowly: Essendon

Still a while off: Melbourne, West Coast, Fremantle

My tip: Collingwood

I have my heart on my sleeve, but this year I can feel something special brewing. I predicted last year's premiers, so I'm hoping I'm on the money again. Don't be suprised if Richmond make the Grand Final, because they are my serious dark horses.

Pumped for a big season

February 26th 2008 09:51
After a big 2007 came to a close, Geelong emerged well deserved premiers, defeating a pitiful Port Adelaide outfit by 119 points. It was nearly ignored that they had fought for their survival in 2007 after holding off a determined Collingwood by 5 points. Steve Johnson won the Norm Smith and has since had problems, not as big as Ben Cousins' drug issues though.

As we set up for 2008, I hope my Pies can at least repeat their effort of 2007 with a preliminary final, but I'm obviously hoping they can go all the way. With so many legends such as Bucks, Hirdy and Archer leaving the game, it will certainly be a different looking 2008
