The Penn State football team will hire the offensive coordinator from the New England Patriots. Bill O'Brien has agreed in principle to become the next head coach at Penn State. An official announcement will be made on Saturday.
O'Brien will continue to coach at New England until they are knocked out of the playoffs. The Patriots have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs in the AFC. O'Brien has been with New England since 2008 where he began coaching wide receivers. Last season he coached the quarterbacks, and this season was his first as the offensive coordinator.
O'Brien previously coached as an assistant at Georgia Tech, Duke and Maryland for 14 seasons before joining New England.
Former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno was fired two months ago after reaching 409 career victories due to that infamous sex scandal. Paterno was the head coach for 46 years.
