Packing Heat in History?

A rundown of the news I watched this morning:
1) North Korea is threatening to blow up a nuclear Bomb. Great. Wonderful. Exactly what I want to be thinking about. Kim Jong Il -- the same man who allows millions of his own people to starve to death in the streets while asserting "hunger? what hunger? We don't have hunger! It's a western ploy!!' now has the power to push a button and blow things up. Great. I have a toddler at home -- it's never a good idea to let children play with big weapons.
2) Wisconsin is considering a new law to allow teachers to carry concealed weapons in the classroom. It's a suggestion posted in response to the recent school shootings. Now let me preface this by saying that the school shootings affect me strongly too -- very strongly. I spend my days in a classroom. I have kids I look at sideway and think "Hmmm...hope he doesn't bring a gun to school, or I'd be at the top of his list..." So I understand the feeling of "lets do SOMETHING" to address this. I really do.
But I also spend my days at school. I know my fellow teachers. The LAST thing anyone wants to do is put a gun in their hands. That's just asking for trouble. I mean think about it -- especially if you're a parent. We spend 8 hours a day shut away into a room with 30 hormone ravaged child-adults at a time. We try to keep them focused on things like Math, English, History, and Science. And now you want to put a gun in our hands?! Holy Heck batman, bad idea!! I can see the headlines now "Local teacher can't get students quiet, so shoots out ceiling lights" or "Teacher corners sassy student with handgun." You think school was scary when the nuns carried...gulp...wooden rulers?!
Hmmmm...then again, if we were all armed, I guess there's a chance we'd get better food in the cafeteria, huh?
