Real Steel Review

October 8th 2011 23:58
Real Steel is out in theaters now. The story revolves around the sport of Robot Boxing. The film stars Hugh Jackman. Charlie and his son Max Kenton find a discarded G2 sparring bot called Atom. They train it and get it to fight.

This film is surprisingly good. The early teaser does not give it a flattering image. The later trailer will show that it actually might have some heart. This movie has a lot of good performances from the cast. However, the real point of the movie is to show off the fights between the robots.

This is basically a robot version of Rocky. It plays out in a similar way. The only thing is that there is no Robo-Adrian.

Overall, this movie has a heart and that is pretty much what it needs.

Digital Presentation vs. 35MM

October 7th 2011 01:00
Digital Projection is taking over the movie theaters. A lot of movie houses are making the switch. There is obviously a difference between the two forms of presentation. The advantage of digital projection is that the picture quality does not deteriorate due to it being a file. The soundtrack is lossless sound from the masters.

The interesting thing is that it doesn't always translate to a better presentation. For one thing, the picture is a lot darker than on film. Also, the sound is in many cases, off balance. The bass seems way too high on the presentation. The other parts of the sound seems muffled.

The most likely issue is that the format is young and a lot of bugs need to be worked out. The sound system needs to be calibrated so that you can get the sound that was meant to be heard.

Home Theater

October 1st 2011 19:48
Soon after home video started becoming available, the concept of home theater was being developed. By the time movies were being made available for home video, theaters were beginning to establish stereo sound formats. The sound formats surrounded the audience giving them an experience that immerses them. However, there likely wasn't a consumer version of it available at first.

However, shortly after movies began getting released on video was the stereo formats. You especially had sound from Dolby. Dolby's first home theater surround sound format was called Dolby Surround. Dolby Surround was soon followed by Dolby Pro Logic. Dolby Pro Logic had the surround sound quality of movie theaters. Meanwhile, digital formats were beginning to be released and started getting formats like Dolby Digital, DTS, and SDDS.

Dolby Digital and DTS were readily available on Laserdisc by the Mid 90s. However, it wasn't until DVD came out that the digital formats became standard.

Now, it is almost a given that you will be watching movies in stereo sound. However, there is another advancement in technology and that is HD. You have HD picture and HD sound formats. Movies are released in Digital projection with lossless sound straight from the studio masters instead of the digital codecs that were designed to compress the formats.

Cop Out Review

A Couple of Dicks

"A Couple of Dicks" is the actual name of the movie. (and will probably be released as the "Unrated" Bluray) This is the first movie that Kevin Smith directs from a script that he didn't write. The film starts off pretty funny but sort of falls off. (The "Haw-midge" Tracy Morgan pays to various movies that him and Bruce Willis name, one of them, Bruce has never even seen

Mr. Freeze in Batman 3!!!!

April 1st 2010 00:34
Not really, but there is speculation about screenwriting getting done. One thing has been confirmed and it is that The Riddler will be the main villain. Other villains will cameo such as The Penguin and Dr. Fries. (not as Mr. Freeze)

There has been no mention of Catwoman, but who would be Bruce Wayne/Batman's love interest. Christian Bale is most likely to return as Batman. Christopher Nolan will most likely direct

James Bond 23 Uncertain

March 31st 2010 23:05
There has been talk about trouble at MGM due to debt. MGM is in debt at over $4 billion. MGM may have to file for bankruptcy. If this happens this could result in the scrapping of the RoboCop remake and the delay of the next Bond film.

We could be in for another hiatus for James Bond. It would only be the third one so far. The first one was six years after the release of Licence to Kill. The second one lasted four years with Die Another Day. There is no telling what we could expect at this point

Brooklyn's Finest

March 31st 2010 22:03
Shortly after the success of Training Day, Antoine Fuqua was immediately approached with an idea for a sequel focusing on the later story of Jake Hoyt as he becomes the very thing he fought against. The title was going to be called "Training Day: The Departed."

Antuoine Fuqua figured that it wouldn't work in that it featured way too many characters. The project was scrapped for a couple of years then it was revived. Tweaks were made and then it was passed around from director to director and the final title of that movie was simply "The Departed
