Recent Post List

You can now display a short recent posts list underneath all your posts as shown here.

The idea behind having the list displayed underneath the post text is that it gives the reader something to move onto after they having finished the current post.

To enable this feature go to your blog's modify page, scroll down to "Display Recent Post List" and choose the number of posts you would like to be displayed.

AdSense Rules Reminder

Just a quick reminder of the two most important AdSense rules that can get your AdSense account banned.

1) Don't click on your own ads and don't tell you friends to click on your ads. Google has many clever people with PhD's working full time on algorithms to detect this kind of behaviour. You will get caught and your account cancelled so don't do it!

2) If a post has mature content on it use the "Mature Content" flag which which will remove any AdSense ads from that post. Google are quite strict about this rule. What is mature content? That's a very grey area but I would suggest you err on the safe side. If you would not show it to your grandma it's probably mature content. Once an account in banned it's very hard to get it back.

Digg and Del.icio.us buttons

You can now have "Add to" Digg and Del.icio.us buttons automatically displayed at the bottom of every post.

Click on the Modify Link for your blog, scroll down to "Display 'Add To' Buttons", and select "Yes".

An example of the buttons in action can be found at the bottom of this post.

Orble Get Together

There will be another Orble get-together on the 10th of June at the Dolphin Hotel in Surry Hills from 3pm.

The last few have been great fun so I would encourage all who can to get along. It's always fun meeting all the people you know so well through their writing

Image Titles

Images will now be given a filename determined by it's title, so it's more important than ever to give every image you upload a title and caption.

Image titles (and to a lesser extent the caption) are used by the search engines to figure out what is in an image so it's very important to use appropriate keywords. By using an image title in the filename of the image Orble blogs will hopefully attract even more image search traffic than they do now -- which is quite a bit [ Click here to read more ]

Posting Regularly

Just a quick note to remind everyone of the importance of posting regularly on your domain blogs.

Ideally there should be at least 3 new posts of a decent length per week on each blog if you want to get lots of readers

Change in Advert Algorithm

There has been a small change in the advert algorithm which may make some difference to the way AdSense reports your stats.

The old algorithm chose which AdSense ID to display (either the author's or Orble's) randomly for each ad on a page. This has now been changed so that each page only uses one AdSense ID for all the ads on that page. The ID selection is still random with a 50/50 ratio however it only happens once for each page

Google Search Box Update

Well the results are in on the Google search box and it's a big thumbs down! It only produced a 3% average increase in revenue.

Given the low return I don't think the search box is worth the extra clutter so it's been removed -- or will be on the next code update

Inactive Accounts

To prevent ads from being displayed for AdSense accounts which no longer exist, AdSense ID's will be removed from the Orble Database if a blogger does not post for 2 months (60 days).

You can submit very short posts to www.orble.com/alive/ if you don't have time to create a longer post on a proper blog

Google Search Box

A Google search box has been added to most Orble blogs. We are experimenting for 48 hours to see how much revenue they generate.

I'll report back in 2 days with the results and if it's worth it we will give Orblers the option of using them on their blogs with their own AdSense ID

Stats emails were not sent out on Sunday due to an error with the new database server which has now been fixed. You should currently be receiving email stats for today.
