Orble Homepage Format

We have had a couple of suggestions for altering the layout of the Orble Homepage.

They include:

1) Listing more recent and popular posts on the first page. So instead of listing the 20 most recent and popular we would list 40 or 50.

2) Arrange the homepage into categories. So under each category the 5 or 10 most recent and popular posts are listed in a smaller font than we use currently. This way each category of posts will get a fairer airing on the homepage.

Both suggestions are meant to help with the fact that only a very small percentage of readers actaully click on a category heading or go past the first page.

Thoughts and/or suggestions?

I like the idea of listing the homepage in categories so everyone can get an idea of what people within their category are talking about. It also gives them a sense of what people outside of their category is talking about. Makes the playing field level, so to speak.

Great ideas Jon. I agree with Joy and Harmony. I'm looking forward to have them implemented esp inclusion of categories. Also, if not for Jasmine's Traffic Stats, I really can't relate to the Blog List in terms of value or functionality. The headings are also out of whack to the actual entry. Not sure if I'm the only one seeing it this way.

Btw, don't you think the tag limitation is rather short? Just wondering. I never experience this anywhere, where I often declare more words. I usually put in 4. I've only been around for about 2 weeks so still in the process of learning, eg., account page, what exactly does 'vote' mean, etc...

How many tags do you think would be appropriate? 6, 10, 20?

That's ok about the blog List, I've figured it out.
About the tag limit, maybe up to 5? 6,10, 20 I dunno. I don't think any well-meaning poster will go beyond 6 or 7. Even 10 is an exaggeration. I think.

I'm about the most academic person I know (no, I don't get out much), but the new front page is too academic.

The old format was a bit flimsy-flamsy, but the new doesn't have what I believe you want, either.

For me, it would be easier to see a list of blogs on one side, a list of authors on the other. Forget the 'enquirer' pics. It looked like they might work, they don't. Looks trashy.

I think you're on the right track, but it still does seem to be missing something regarding layout. I can't put my finger on it, but it's just not there.

As a side note... are there RSS feeds for categories?
