Orble Channels
March 24th 2008 23:54
I've done some reorganising to the Orble Channels which I'm sure most people would have noticed by now. I'm wondering what everyone thinks of the changes?
Does anyone want any channels added which are not there? Remember that we want to keep the number of channels to a minimum to keep things simple and to avoid having them overlap (to make it easy for readers to find material) so we can't just add an infinite number of random channels. However I'm sure there are many topics which it would make sense to add?
Would appreciate your thoughts.

I'll have a think about other things and let you know Jon, ads seem very scarce at present, often not enough variety, although often they just don't hang around long enough.
With photography I mean to include cameras as well as tips and photos. But all would fit under photography.
I think channels work well for films, not so sure about other things.

Jon, noted the positive change separating Science and Technology, but could we have a few finer distinctions to save putting computers under gadgets? and the like.
There are probably other things, but easy as she goes.

I'd like to suggest an "investment" channel. I'm planning to start an investment blog, and I noticed that the closest channels we have are "personal finance" and "business". The stock market - in terms of institutional trading issues, index trends, regulatory changes, broker views etc - is a major area of potential posts which would not sit comfortably under either personal finance or business. My post yesterday about the NAB provision surprise (link here) is a case in point - my theme was investment, but I had to put it under news. Investment bank views and new investment opportunities in green technology developments are further areas which could throw up posts with little overlap with exisiting channels.
Coming from a finance journalism and investment banking background, my inclination would be to create a "Finance" channel, and make "Business", "Personal finance" and "Investment" sub-categories of it.
That's my wish list for today
Regards,
Chris
