Open blogs allow writers other than the blog owner to join as a member and contribute posts.

They enable the workload of running a successful blog to be shared between a number of people. Given the importance of publishing at least one post every weekday to keep your readers coming back this can be quite useful.

More importantly open blogs allow new writers to start writing for a big audience straight away and perhaps earn some money. It usually takes at least 3 to 6 months for a blog to build up a large readership and to start attracting a decent amount of search engine traffic. By joining an established blog a new writer can skip the usual waiting period.

You can see which blogs are open to other writers on the Orble Blog List.

Blog moderators may require a sample of your writing before allowing you to join and there may also be a probation period and posting guidelines. The membership of each blog is entirely up to the blog moderator. To apply to join a blog send an email to open@orble.com or click on the "Apply to write for this blog" link in the blog's menu.

There are a number of advantages to opening up your blog to other writers.

First of all your blog will have more fresh material and so you will find it easier to attract and keep regular readers. Blogs which have more than one contributing writer are also usually perceived as being more credible.

Secondly, it is thought that search engines favour websites with a large amount of content and so your own posts should attract more search engine traffic.

Thirdly, ads credited to the blog moderator's AdSense account will be shown on the blog's homepage (as well as any posts they authored) so any increase in traffic from extra posts will benefit the moderator directly.

The moderator maintains complete control over who is able to publish posts on their blog and so can easily retain control over the quality of their blog's content. Also if you find that having other contributors to your blog is not for you then you can always return to single authorship.
